guesstimate my spl
guesstimate my spl
I am going to order my first system on friday. My parents are giving me money to buy 2 kicker comp vr 15's and a kicker dx700 amp. I already built a box for them, it is sealed, with a little under 3 cubes per woofer. It is going to face towards the trunk and the amp will get it's signal from a sony cdx-m610. No real sound deadner excapt for some expanding foam and some carpet pad that i lined the underside of my rear deck with. It is a 2002 civic sedan. This is all the info i can think of that would help guess the spl. Another thing is i heard the dx700 actually puts out 800-850 rms. I will probably get it metered soon after the install.

really depends on the install, but i am going to guess that it will be at leats 130 db ona termlab, most likely a lot more.
ARe you serious? high 130's on the tl. I was hoping for the 120's. My main goal is to beat all my other hs friends systems, which all consist of audiobahn. MAin system i want to be louder than and sound better than is 2 audiobahn 12's with 200 watts to each in a bandpass enclosure in the back of a ford explorer. the other is two audiobahn 12's in a sealed enclosure in a tahoe with 300 watts to each. I'm looking to get loud but still want ok sq, thats why i got each sub 3 cubes. Another question is will this drown out my highs when turned all the way up? my highs are 6 1/2" 3 ways xplodes or xplods or whatever running off the sony cdx-m610 hu. i know the speakers are not the best but are better than stock by far and were free. Personally i have not heard any set-up's taht were metered on the new term lab so i don;t know how much of a difference it is, but what would you say i could reach on the older sensor?
how is it damn low? for a set-up that is nit for extreme spl i think it is pretty good. A 3 cube per side sealed box is by no means spl, so i don't see how it is damn low for 2 15's in a 3 cube per side box, getting only 400 rms per sub. Those single ten set-ups in the 160's are probably subs getting around 5,000 watts and being burped every once in a while, not a daily driver set-up. So i say high 130's for two underpowered 15's in an sq box for daily driving is pretty damn good and sefinately not bad for a first system for a 16 year old.

i say its damn low because for example, a guy on another forum, image dynamics idmax, 900 watts, 1.4 cubic foot SEALED, doing 142.x
similar setups out there as well
on top of the fact that kicker comp vr's sound like butt

Im not really trying to start a fight or argument, but could you please inform me of two other 15" subs that run off 400 watts a piece that can be had for $90 a piece on ebay that sound better and can get as loud as two comp vr 15's in a 3 cube per side box. and that idmax has more of an spl enclosure that a 3 cube sealed box has, but still an impressive score.
i'm really not trying to start an argument, but i am probably going to order my system today (friday), so if you have any other suggestion to replace the comp vr's, please inform me. i think im most definatly getting the dx700 though.

a single adire tempest, ported in 6 cubes, off 500 watts will sound better, louder, and lower than the cvr's
why settle for 2 midgrade subs when you could get 1 nicer one that would do the same
