What spl are you pushing with 2 12"s?
Just wondering what everybody's spl was who have gotten theirs tested and what kind of setup do you have? I'm pushing 142.8 dB with my two 12s and two 300 watt amps in a sealed box..
Another question, I know having a ported box would raise my spl a little bit but I'll lose some SQ out of it but I'll sacrifice.. how much of an spl do you gain? Does anybody know?

You can gain up to 9db's with a ported enclosure, but most likely 3db's on average. Pretty impressive score...My 12W3 with a JL 500/1 didn't even come close to that in which we should be the same due to my cabin gain.

Was this at a local competition..if so under which rules?.. a 142.2 with 600 watts in sealed setup is almost too impressive to be truth. Current;y with my single 15" Eclipse alum and Arc 2100CXL (400wrms) I'm hitting a 133..with my older setup of 2 Audiomobile EVO-R12's and a Micro Dimension u 1k.1 amp (1400wrms) in a 7.5 cu.ft vented enclosure tuned to 48hz for SPL I managed a 151.2 on a Linear X PC mic under DB Drag SS1-2 NW rules..

For your question regarding porting..you can gain up to 9db's or so if your enclosure is large enough..and has enough port area and is tuned above 40hz..but the gain will only be within your tuning frquency +/- 3dbs..basically a big spike...and anything below your port tuning frquency will be pretty much muddy noise.
By tuning very low..like 28hz.. you'll have a 3 decibel gain flat through your frequency rresponse..
I'd reccomend download WinISD from team linear..(google..search for Win ISD) it's an enclosure modelling program for frequency responses..you can play around with it and see how porting..port tuning and enclosure sizes affect a subs response

With my old setup with 2 PPI C2 12's and a PC1800 (800 watts) in a sealed box I hit a 146.3 . With last years setup with 1 15" Execution Sub in a ported box and a PPI PCX1500 (1000 watts) I hit a 149.7. I agree with mohawk tho, porting is definatly the way to go for spl. I gained 4 db when porting the 15. Unfortunatly the current stero in my car blows and I'm lucky to hit a 136, but that will be fixed in the spring.

Im hitting 145 db at least without any adjustment to my system! I have 1 15" Alpine Type R sub (Dual Voice Coil) and 2 MRD-M500's Alpine Mono Block Amps (one to each voice coil). I pretty put them in turned it on and tested. now I can probably hit alot louder but I havent tested.

Okay an open class...I guarantee you if you were tested with a calibrated Linear X or Term pro mic you'd hit alot lower ....at a local comp with my old setup I hit a 157.2 but I don't count it because the mic was way way off
Considering I have owned a type-r as well, this is another one I would have to see to believe. You will be suprised how far off your ears are compared to a mic...

144.2 Db, I have two 12W3v2's (was tested with original W3's) with a JL 500/1....but I just added another 500/1 so we'll have to see what happens now when I get it tested....was stock class 301-600 watts, USAC. I won 1st place....the 2nd place guys was at like 136 or so....Mad props to AudioLink in Manchester, NH for tunning my system the first time around!
