faultyscrew is an unknown quantity at this point
I'm in NJ - I know there are plenty of people that could help me with a DIY and I do appreciate all the help you've been giving me. My rents aren't giving me all the money towards it but I have decided to go with my local shop. I would be saving tons of $$$ with DIY but it's the route my parents approve of more. The next mod I do though I want to DIY - just so I can get to know the car a little better. And my local shop is doing a bunch of custom stuff for me now so I don't feel like I'm just paying someone to fill the holes in my door. I'm very confident in his work too - I've seen a bunch of cars he's worked and and I know I couldn't do the same. He's going to give me a bit of a $$$ break on an Eclipse HU since I'm having lots of work done there. Not sure which HU I'm getting yet though.

Anyway - I would like to thank everyone for their input and offers to help me out.

I'll def. keep you posted! The pics I'll probably have next week or so - 2 weeks tops (going on vacation!). The ratings may take a bit longer but I'll post them none the less!

If I were paying I'd feel more comfortable paying per job rather than per hour. Having done everything except the baffles and front speaker installs, I spent almost two full days installing a complete system.

That said - make sure your installer is reputable. Places that offer cheaper prices may cut corners. Proper installation is the key to avoiding problems and insuring good sound quality.

I prefer DIY - you are aware of each step of the installation and can make sure it's done right. Access to an auto shop with proper tools and such and knowledgable friends to help on installation day also helps.

a good and well known shop around here is about $70 an hour if you bring in your own stuff. a little cheaper if you buy from them...i think the job would take about 2-3 hours.
