How much should I pay for installation???
How much should I pay for installation???
I was just wondering how much everyone here paid for installation?
I am going to my local shop soon to get an estimate to install - components up front, one 12" sub, 2 amps (mono sub and 2-channel), head unit, as well as wiring and such.
Just need some numbers to see if what I should be paying. Thanks!

I've never ever taken off door panels off any car before, and I did with my 04'. It was easy to take off, but just be gentle and try not to break anything.
I've done everything you want to be done to your car except 2 amps. I only have one, but hooking up a second one should not be hard.
anywere from $35 to $45 an hour, around my area. Go to barnes and knoble and buy a book on installing and this way you know how to run the wires and everything, thuss preventing electrical fires.
yea i would rather do it myself.
i always learn things when doing myself rather than have somone else do it.
i end up learning a lot weather or not i was experieneced in it.
plus if something goes wrong you dont have to go running back to the place to get it fixed.
you also have a good forum here to help you out.

if i remember correctly the shop i worked at did it per piece
35 for hu
50 for comp set
65 for each amp
50 for subs
then if you got the wire there it was included in the price...
save yourself some money and do the deck yourself, have them use 4 ga wire for the 2 channel and comp install and then put in the subs, and mono amp yourself.

I work at a car audio shop so heres what we charge, ( i know i think that the prices are a lil high.)
All of below is labor (btw, usually charged $60/hr if were troubleshooting or some other open ended labor)
components $80
Sub amp $60
two channel $70
Head unit $55
Parts that you would need
Fit Kit $15.95
Wiring Harness $9.95
4 ga wiring kit with distribution block $89.00
2 sets of stinger hyper Rca's $14.95 each
Our total if my shop installed it (mind you all labor is warrantied as long as you own the car, parts for one year, two if we install them)
$409.80

I was thinking of DIY. It's not that I don't know how to do it - I build computers and such and work with electrical components/hardware everyday. I am more than qualified to do-it-myself and I know I really should - I would save a whole lotta $$ and have a great learning experience. I already know how to run the wires and hook-up the amps and stuff - the only thing keeping me from DIY is the fact that I will have to take off the door panels and such - my parents bought the car (with an extended warranty) so they would feel better if I not work on it. I've built all their computers from the ground up but they won't let me do the audio install - I'll never get parents?!?!?

lets see, my local goes by piece and i believe the prices are:
$40 for HU
$35 for speakers (per set)
$45 for amp (no additional charge for another amp, its not much more work)
no charge for mounting subs in a box
$10 for wiring harness, $15+ for a kit.
$25+ for a 4 guage wiring kit (no d block or rca's)
i dont know the rest of the pricing.
it'll depend on how many people are working on your car to determine time, but 3 hours minimum i would say.

my friend just recently got a whole audio system installed...
headunit + component set in front + coaxials in back + 4 channel amp + subs + mono amp + all wiring = 280
This was the local shop that i've been to many times before so sometimes he cuts off a little from the price, he first quoted about 320-350 but went down to 280.
Try the DIY!

when i got my car, the most electronic work id done is plug my tea kettle in the outlet
now, with some trial and error, never causing much other than blowing a fuse or two, ive installed my whole system and everything ive done to pull away from stock,
including amp, subs, HU, in dash tv, psone, in car LED, rear tail lights, full catback. and the list will only go on as time progresses!
For the tv and psone install, i was quoted minimum 200, and thats if it went smooth. ive saved myself a lot of cash, and as well, enjoyed the installs. DIY, and if ya got questions, post them. you'll surely get responses and trust me, ya feel more like its YOUR car when YOU install everything. it becomes a hobby and you cant wait to buy sthg else mostly because of the install!
good luck man!

this is what u think.....u think the shop is will do a better job....well i dont think they....they are also DIY'ing on ur car!
serious...i have compare my work to the shop's work.....mine proply better cuz i care for my car so i do everything with time/heart
. and the shop will just "ehh not my car, gonna half-fast this thing and get the money....and if something fails he/she will have to pay again to get it re-done.
do u see what im saying?

I see what you're saying - like I said though - it's not me that doesn't want to do the work - I want to DIY. I can compare what you're saying to me and computer work - whenever I do case mod, wiring, or any other type of tweak, hardware or software, and such I make sure everything's perfect - if I'm working with someone else's machine I may not take as good care of it as I would my own. Believe me - I know what your saying - I agree 100%. DIY would give me a good learning experience as well as saving me some $$$. The problem is that that car is only 1 years old and my parents have a problem with me working on it. Maybe if it were a little older they would say go ahead we don't care. The place I'm taking it to for install is very reputable and does lots of competition stuff so I do trust they will do a good job. MREEZYSMRS recommended the place so I'm confident!
I just went to my local shop. I've decided to do a couple of things to the car since then so the price of the install has gone up.
This is what's being done:
Custom Sub-enclosure
Custom amp box
Kick Panels
2 Amps
1 Sub
Components (front)
Head Unit
And he's doing something about mounting a jack for the RCA input on the HU
the parts and intall came to $650 largely due to the custom sub/amp enclosures and the kick panels. Seems like a decent price. I trust the guy doing it however - heplaced 2nd in the world for car sound quality and still takes lots of cars to competition. He had a couple of his staff's cars in the fornt for me to listen to - I was blown away! He wanted to make my vic more of a competition vehicle and add woofers in the doors and such as well as adding a gigantic EQ.
Think this is a fair price? I thought it seemed kind of high at first but then he showed me exactly what he was doing and how much the raw materials cost him. Waht do you guys think?

yeah where are you? im sure a civic member here would be willing to do it for gas and beer money! i know i would help!
and that will be a tenth of the charges you're about to incur.
your cars a yr old, well mine is exactly a yr old today, july 26, 2004. in the one yr to date, ive DIY'ed an amp, subs, HU, indash tv, PSone, catback, lights, and an in car neon. just lie to your parents if ya have to!lol
seriously though, good luck whichever way ya go. but damn to me thats a lot of money for parents to just be giving to their kids for some installs. i could never accept that money if my rents gave it to me, id feel like a spoiled as hell. try to convince your parents, maybe tell them some guy with the same car from this forum is coming to help you if that turns out to be the case and hes done all the stuff himself. offer them to see his setup as well. DIYs are fun and educational, take pride in doing it yourself[DIYS!]!
good luck
