HU shuts off when its too loud

hey guys i have an Alpine HU (27x4 watts) and its running Infinity kappa series speaker (6x9 rear. 6.5 front)

and my alpine shuts off when its too loud then it would turn on again...and if i dont turn down the volume it will just shut off again....it keeps doing that till i turn down the volume?

my question is... y is it doing that?....is it a safety feature...so it wouldnt blow up anything?

Yep, it's overloading, or getting too hot. Maybe the speakers are too much for the amps in the HU, or do you have too many speakers hooked up? Maybe check that your speakers are not less than 4ohm impedance.

That's probably the case, your best bet would be to grab yourself a cheap 2 channel amp, it'll make the speakers a lot happier in addition to stopping the cutting out.

yea my infinity kappa speakers are wayy too strong for my HU.....these infinity kappa speakers are meant to be amped....but its too much of a hassle to amp speakers.

its kinda hard to route the wires back to the trunk from the doors.

how do u guys route the wires? (for those who amp their speakers)

I don't but there is alot of space under the seats, and even under the glove box. just close it in so no water gets in from your girlfriends shoes! Floor space is plentiful there.

actually, speakers handle power, not the other way around! kapps love deck power, 27 rms can be plenty for a speaker!

however, you say your alpine is a 27x4? I assuem thats 27 rms? didnt that radio sayu you needed to make your own ground?

I think its possible, if its rated for 27x4 rms, and if it is installed using hte stock power and ground, that the wiring may be too small, causing a severe voltage drop at high volumes shutting the radio off.

I am inclined to think the problem would still be there if you regrounded the radio directly to the chassis, but I cant say for sure.

I would start by doing that though, regrounding. independant of the stock harness. After that, if it still isnt enough, I would grab some 10 gauge and run a length from teh battery directly dedicated to the radio, and splice the yellow radio wire to that one instead.

if it is power and voltage drop issues, that should fix it right up.
