Refurbished ICE....still good?
i'm looking into a dvd player for my car so i went to ebay and nearly all them are for good prices but say "REFURBISHED" or "REMANUFACTURED", what exactly does that mean? the products were defected but then fixed? anyone here try a refurbished product, if so how'd it hold up? i can save about $300-$400 if i buy from ebay but it makes me think of the phrase "you get what you pay for" and "to good to be true", ya know.

Stay away for that stuff. What happened was the unit probably couldn't read cds or something, so they took everything apart and fixed it. Refurbished audio is usually never the same and won't last.
I can't believe how low your turbo price is and nobody wants it.

Refurb is a gamble, I've had refurbished stuff break down and malfunction on me, but more recently I bought a home theater kit that was a refurbish and it works beautifully..
Good deals for sure, but you are taking your chances

so would it be worth to risk a refurbished dvd player from pioneer? are they still warrenty'd? or should i just fork over some extra cash and buy it brand new?
refurbished stuff is far superior than line stuff, often. refurbished concerning reliable companies (not clarion or audiobahn) ensures that the product was hand tested by a technician. new stuff that comes off the line is rarely checked 100% of the time, usually batches are tested, one of ten, systems like that.
refurbs are good from bestbuy and circuit city, sometimes they are just open box returns you can also put extended warranties and they will replace it with a new one, in the ebay case i wouldnt buy anything thats refurbished if it doesnt have a warranty.
