is the amp still on?
did you check the ground wire connection?
were the subs still going?
how are things connected (seperate rcas for front and subs, split rca's, high level inputs, low level converters)?
did you look at the crossovers for blown parts?
can i ask if the wiring is fine enough?
thats a good start...

yeah my head unit starts skipping after it gets too hot, eventually too much to even use. when the amp overheats the unit cannot perform normally, sometimes shutting itself off completly. so check the amp to see if it was overheating. if so buy a 12v fan, 80 or 120mm is good, and have it blowing on the heatsink a little.

Here is the setup.....Pioneer Premier HU...i got the stock tweets in the doors and Pioneer Premier 6.5's in the doors...all hooked up to the stock wires.....the subs are hooked straight to the amp...and while i was playing my music...the HU was still playin the cd, the subs were still hittin, but all my components in the car shut off...don't know what it was...i took the HU out and it was hella hot...it all happened yesterday, i checked all my wiring to all my speakers and all the wires are coo....im running a 4GA Amp Kit for my grounding and what not.....so i don't know what it is...i checked it out today and still no sound out the front....sounds weird...any other guess''s on what it might be?

it overheated. ive had the problem many times before. shut it off for a long time, ie overnight, and then try again. if it works, it overheated and try not to let it do it again. if it doesnt something fried.

there is an amp inside your HU, it sure could have overheated. and i don't think HU's have a shut off like aftermarket amps do. buy a cheap 2 channel, split the wire in the back and hook up your speakers to that.

imma see if it plays this afternooon........if not, then i got some probs to handle...and the thing is when the speakers shut off the HU was still on....hmm...if there's anyonelse who ever encountered this prob let me know...
if you have tweets and another pair of speakers in the door connected together that would give a 2 ohm load, right? I don't think the internal amp could handle that its not a component, right? no crossover from the 6.5's? just a thought.

so i disconnect the subs and amp.....and go to turn on my HU....i turn up the volume as loud as i can then i hear a lil cracklin bass comin from the rear right 6x9...then i turn the balance to the far right...and it still makes that sound....so im guessin right now that there may be a short on the right side of the car....startin from the 6.5 in the door to the 6x9 in the back....i called the audio shop down the street and they said they would look at it for $45 bucks....only a diagnostics for $45...im not gonna pay them if there is somethin simple to fix....the thing is tho, i don't know whats wrong..and may have to take it in to the shop...any opinions and idea's would be greatful!
I doubt there would be a short. It sounds like you fried the amp in the HU. you said it won't work at all? if you don't have a crossover and the speakers are in parallel,,+ + and - - and then to the head unit it would give a 2 ohm load and i don't think the HU can handle that. you can try disconnecting everything and hook up one speaker at a time and see what happens.

i doubt my speakers are wet...and if indeed my speakers are in parallel, doesn't that mean my stock speakers woulda fried the HU also considering i wired them the same exact way they were before? And my HU works...its just no sound from the components...imma disconnect the speakers on the passenger door and see if the left side works vice versa...i need beat man!

so i disco all the speakers front and back...tried to wire the front but no luck...tried to wire the back and no luck...so i take a multimeter and test the wires for power..sure enuff there is juice being sent thru the speaker wires which leaves me wit one answer...the internal amp in the HU is gone...but what confuses me, is if thats so, then how come my stock speakers didn't fry my HU if I wired them the same way?

the stock tweeter has a bass blocker wired in, so it doesn't consume power below a certain frequency. stock woofer starts going to crap at very low power levels. so you couldn't turn it up much before it clipped noticibly.
new speakers can take more power. they play at all frequencies, plus high notes means the stock tweets consume power. high frequencies mean that the HU is seeing a 2 ohm load basically. this is my theory.
if your subs work, your rcas are still ok. buy a cheap amp, wire it up, and consider it an inexpensive lesson. plus you'll get a louder, cleaner sound
