Car PC anyone ?
Well ive started a new project being that my audio system is mostly finished. Im trying to rig up a PC to my alpine IVA-D900 and use ...

Found at http://www.digimoto.com
To tap in to the OBD2 of the car PC to display also. And be able to play all my MP3's anytime i want. Anyone else done/doing this or have any suggestions/ ideas? I know of a very informative web site MP3CAR.COM But im open for suggestions and or ideas.

I've always thought about how cool this would be, but I've never had time to research or get it done. I also wonder if the computer would break pretty quickly from being jarred around in the trunk and by my subwoofer a lot.

well, make sure you have an OK graphics card. this way, you can hook up a wireless card to it...and go online w/ your sh** on the driveway. wooooord. WIRELESS OWNS!!! and then, you can get games of counterstrike when you go to your friends house. and not even go inside!!! lol. word....that would be hot. or just put 4 screens in the car and have your own lan part as you drive. that would be pimp.

my local shop did a carputer in a prelude, used regular computer components, made a case out of acrylic, and put it under the seat. its a show car, so it not meant for regular computer functionality.
they are working on an install for a z06 corvette, doing a carputer in there to. using a micro atx amd motherboard with built in geforce4 graphics card, 120gb hard drive, amd 3000+, 512mb ram, blah blah. i can get pics when its done, gonna be a couple weeks. if the components are all secured in a case, and the case is secured down, there shouldnt be much of a problem. the only potential problem i see is with a hard drive, being a moving part, unlike ram. too much jarring could lessen the life of a hard drive, but i hear those external hard drives offer a bit more "shock protection", so that can be a solution.
i wanna do one, but i want a high res lcd monitor, and those are expensive, if i find one cheap, i'm doing it.

I'm in the process of building one right now. I've got most of the parts ordered, going with a via epia m1000 board and making a custom install in the floor of my trunk for the motherboard and amps. I'm gonna order one of those 8" lilliput touch screens off of ebay and mold it into my dash where the double din is. For hard drive i've got a bunch of 3.5" drives laying around so i'm gonna mount that vertically to help with the jolting. If it holds up i'll stick with that, it depends on the drive/car. Some may hold up, some may not. If it doesn't then I'm gonna go with a 2.5" laptop hard drive. Those are designed to withstand impacts much better.
