powering two 8s
powering two 8s
I have 2 boston acoustic competitor 8 in subs 2ohms single voice coil. If i build the correct box is it better to have one amp for both or would I get a higher SPL by two mono amps,,say JL audio 500/1 one for each sub? I had the subs a while when i had my truck and hate to part with them but want to see how much i can get out of them and if its even worth it.
Dude, how much power were you running with them before??? In my last truck I had 4 boston pro series 8's with a 500/1 and it was stupid. I currently have 2 8W7 with the 500/1 in my vic and it is plenty of power for those W7s. The competitors are a great sub, but you don't need nut loads of power! 250/1 of both???
well when i got them I had a pioneer amp and ran in series putting them at 4ohms but my new plan is to build 2 boxes to the company specs and run 2 JL 500/1s one on each that is the top number recommended power rating is 50-500. box size is 6.5hx9.0wx9.0d and it is a sealed box. I know it will pound i had a 300 watt earthquake before on them and it was ok but 500 watts on EACH sub,,,,,,,,,,,what kind of SPL do you think I could get?????
I sound to me that you want to pound! JL 500/1 = $550 ea. That's $1100 just in amps, and IMO you will be wasting your money to run those 8s and not get the SPL that you are wanting. I would get one 500/1 and a 10W7 either HO box or custom. This kind of set up will pound!
