I am looking to spend $400-500cdn ($300-375us) on an MP3 HU. I would prefer if it were a second hand deck, since it will save me some dough. The deck needs to have at least 2 pre-outs and it doesn’t HAVE to have an internal amp since the speakers are going to be powered externally. I am leaning toward Alpine and Pioneer because I have heard good things about these decks. Can you recommend any good models to look for?

I can't recommend any good models, but you might also take a look at Eclipse. I have heard from several people that Alpine and Eclipse offer the best HUs. I've always had Pioneer, but I just picked up an Eclipse for my new car... so we'll see if people are right.
