Amp ground points?

Are there any spots in my trunk that I can easily ground my amp to?

I don't really want to have to drill more holes than I have to, so if there is a nice place from the factory, I'd like to know about it.

I have 2 units that need to be grounded, my amp and my cap.

Where is it mounted?

I had my ground on a bolt near the taillights

Either on the left or right side my trunk (not sure where it will go yet), but probably the left. As close to the rear seats as possible. Definitely closer to the rear seat than to the taillights.

I guess anything is possible with the right length of ground wire.

Of course, but as you know the limit on length for a ground wire should be 36"

It doesnt matter how long your ground cable is as long as you have the proper gauge for the length that you are using. The older PPI power class amps told you to have a ground run directly to the battery and to the chassis. My ground is to my seatbelt bolt and I've never had any problems.

It is a theory and a rule of thumb that grounds should be <= 36".

How this was derived I do not know but should I find out, I will post it

If you remove the jack access cover (plastic piece at rear of trunk) there will be a grounding bolt behind it. There should be about 6-10 wires already grounded there. The screw should be green. If you don't want to ground it there, find a bolt somewhere in the trunk, or do like I did, and find a place that's near where you're going to mount the amp and cap, get a piece of sand paper, a stripping bit in a drill, anything really, scrape off/sand off the paint to bare metal, and run a self tapping metal screw in it, and ground there.

if you pull up your rear seat you will notice unpainted metal - I used one of the seat belt bolts. All grounds consolidated to a distribution block accordingly.

I bolted mine to the one bolt that hold down your rear seats. I was testing out all the grounding points in the trunk, and found out that most of the metal of the trunk, willing not ground. All the bolts you see will ground (goldish colour bolts).

If you got a volt meter try it out. Get your remote wire and connect that to your positive terminal on your volt meter, and then keep touching suitable grounding points with the negative terminal.

Well that's what I did at least.

The bolt that holds down the rear seat cushion is where I have my amps grounded too...it's a good spot.

haha... I'm not the only one. I had to use a longer bolt though. The stock bolt was too short. I have a grounding block connected to my ground wire, and that's why it would not fit.

I could have just bought a connector, but I was too lazy to go to the stereo shop.

Hmm something just popped into my mind that I never considered before... If I put my ground under carpet and have carpet touching the ground bolt, terminals, or in the event that wire becomes exposed, is there a potential for a major fiery problem here?

No, you'll be fine, sparks wont happen unless the ground fully disconnects from the metal and then reconnects.
