Headunit not working
Headunit not working
hey guys and gals!
heres what i have...
-Pyle in dash tv
-Legacy external DVD/CD player
i got in my car the yesterday started it up and hit the power button on my headunit
and nothing happened. hmm...so i hit the power button on the dvd/cd player nothing happened.
i checked the fuses from both the tv and dvd player. i checked the 10 amp backup fuse under the hood. in fact i checked every fuse (in and out) because its drving me crazy!!
so i thought maybe its the headunit. so i grab my OEM headunit and plug it in and hit the power button and still nothing! whats going on? i dont know much about Audio (engines are my thing) so i have run out of ideas.
thanks

check the power lines with a multimeter. hit up the vehicle wiring diagram database on the left here <--------------- and check what our wire colors are for constant and accessory power for hte radio wiring harness. then check those, they should be dead. if your fuses are fine and both of those are live, along with ground, then your stuff broke, even the stock radio.
if the wires are dead, which they probbaly are, then youve got a blown fuse or a burn wire, or a broken wire, and its gotta be traced to the source of the issue.
in either case, it may just be simpler and easier to run new power or accessory leads from teh steering column or form the battery direct with some 12-16 gauge, or 10 gauge, respectively.

yesterday i went out to my car and checked all the Fuses they were all fine. and i found out that the DVD/CD player works. because when i went out last night i hit the power button and it lit up.
im gonna check the wires now.
thank you both for the help!

also sir, no offense to you or your choice of equipment, but legacy and pyle are complete bottom of the line brands, so i wouldnt be at all surprised if something just crapped out on you.
hahahahahahaha....yeah i know i went cheap
but i got both the tv and the dvd player brand new for 400 bucks. they have worked good so far and they still are.
i just ran everything off the battery and both the tv and the dvd/cd player are working fine.
however when i checked the wires the radio switch (the yellow/red) wire isn't showing any current. i tired to trace the wire but its a huge mess of wires in there and i eventually lost it!
is there anything else i can run the wire to that only gets power when the ignition is turned on but can support both the TV and cd player?

pop off the black thing around teh steering wheel (3 screws on the bottom, and the top piece snaps off), youll see a harness that plugs in around the bottom of the column right up close to the steering wheel with some 12 gauge decently thick wires coming off it. (its the only one with thick wires).
tap into the blck/red if you want it to be an accessory, (coming on in the first key position and when the cars on)
or
tap into blck/yellow if you want it to be strictly when the cars on.
