HU Clipping Signal?
Hey everyone, everyone knows that my current setup for the front is JL Audio XR Compoents and an Alpine T-420 123W RMS x 2 @ 4Ohms. I turned the gain down considerably to where my components are loud enough, but the tweeters don't make the popping/cracking sound. I talked to a local car audio installer in my college town and he told me that it sounds like the signal is being clipped at my HU which was causing my tweeters to make this noise. I still don't see how this couldn't have happened with my previous HiFonics ZX6000 and previous XR components, but im not going to worry about it. Anyways, he told me to re-tune my amplifier and when doing so, keep my HU max volume to around 27 or 28 to keep the signal from clipping from the outputs on my HU. I haven't had time to re-do the settings on my amplifier yet, but does this sound like a reasonable cause for this problem that I have been having with my tweetrers? Also, just on a side note, my HU is an Alpine CDA-7893 and I have had it for almost 2 years. I hear that with heavy use, and I do push my HU, they can wear out in a reasonably short time. Hopefully it isn't my HU going bad or something.
