Wiring and LED's
Wiring and LED's
Ok, I am pretty wiring proficient and stuff .... I just haven't had any exposure to LED's. I have never been interested or really paid attention to threads that mention them. I know many here have used them so this would probably be a good place to start.
First off this isn't car related .... but I think its similar enough to get help since it deals w/ 12v electronics.
Heres my dilema. My PC has 4 fans extra case and they make my computer loud. But in like them for when I play games and stuff. Keeps the PC cooler of course. But I really only need them when I play games. I have seen this at Fry's but it is only a speed control. It won't turn them off completely. Siblings 4 Fan Controller
So I wanna take a blanked out panel and make controls for them. I am thinking toggle switches w/ an LED above each one. Lighted toggle switches would be even better. Maybe even a dimmer w/ an off position and LEDs above each one. Any suggestions??
1) I was looking at Radio Shack and they had tons of stuff. Most of their stuff is 120v / 10A, will that be ok in a 12v environment?
2) If I got a lighted switch, I assume I need to supply power to it to light it? Would powering it w/ 12v be enough to even light it up?
3) If I use LED's, would I just be using them in series in the circuit? Would the fan act as a resistor, or do I need a separate resistor for it?
Thanks guys ....
