Home Amp

Where can I find quality, low-priced home audio amplifiers? Are the plate amps from parts express any good?

Any other places to buy home amps for cheap? Any amp suggestions?

thanx

Both will have more info than you could ever realize. Many use Tempests or the Shivas for home theater subs. I know many talk about the plate amps from parts express, but I dunno the exact ones they talk about. Poke around those sites some and you should fine everything you need to know.

Going to try something like this?

What are you planning on doing. I'm assuming you wanna take the 4 old subs and do something cool for the home theater.

I made a ported enclosure for an Alpine 15" Type-R using the same enclosure specs I used for my car and it rocks. I used 2 of the plate amps from Parts Express (1 amp per Voice Coil).

I have used a couple of those Parts Express plate amps in my home theater setup. try posting at http://www.pesupport.com/cgi-bin/config.pl They are pretty easy going. What sub are you using? You can also get some stuff pretty c heaply at www.apexjr.com

look into making your own equipment, small payout up front, big payoff in the end!

problem with creating an amp so large by hand is the heatsink. youd have to take the heatsink off somehting else and retrofit it. youd be surprised how much heat 1-2 kilowatts of class a/b power puts out

I was thinking of putting one of my Shivas in about a 2 cube sealed box with one of those 250 watt amps. It seems like it will be a fun project if I go that route.

if you get a plate amp from parts express can you wire up more than one sub series/parallel or only 1 amp per voice coil?

nevermind, i emailed parts express, so basically its just like a car amp, i assumed since i saw a post that said he used 1amp per voice coil that there might be a problem using 1 amp for 4 voice coils..

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=300-804

I bought this amp and a Type S 2ohm + 2ohm 12" from hookedontronics.com and a $30 12" clearance box from K's Merchandise and i just got it all setup last night, well i had the amp wire for a while since it came in b4 i got the sub i was going to buy a sub locally but found the type S for $104 shipped from hooked on tronics, and this setup sounds great!!!

i have no complaints at all.

I was even thinkin about if/when i go w/ a single 12" in the car i might buy a 500W plate amp for my Type R's.. possibly for our system in the basement.
