ID Max Question
I think I am going to get IDMaxes soon and I want to try out using two IDMaxes in my box that is 4.945 cubic feet before displacement
If I want to use 2 3" round ports, and tune the box between 28-31 hrtz, what port length should I use for each of the two ports? ...and what frequency would it be tuned to?
...my calculations don't seem right, so i wanted to get y'alls input
...also, where should I set my subsonic filter?
thanx

www.linearteam.org download winisd, thats the program i use to design my boxes ( like 25 with this particular program)
subsonic id say 19-20 Hz
subsonic id say 19-20 Hz

Thanks man...been there, done that...The calculations that I am getting from WinISD does not seem right because it would require 2 six inch ports for 31hrtz, and it will be right on the border of port noise.
...the one thing that WinISD says that is pretty cool is that this new set up will be 10dbs louder across the board then my current setup!!!

Also, I have another question...since I am getting two subs, what would be better to get:
-2 dual 4ohm subs and run them at 1 ohm
or
-2 dual 2ohm subs and run them a 2 ohms
and why?
Keep in mind that my amp supposedly puts out the same amount of power at 2 and 1 ohm, but will running at 2 be easier on the cars internals.
Is it better to run in parrellel or series, and why?

even though i have no logical explaination for this, i bet your amp puts out a little more at 1 ohm than it does 2 ohms, but if its rated the same at 1 and 2 ohms, just run it at whatever is most convenient.

probably, i noticed the same thing with JL's slash series amps, a little more power at lower ohms, nothing significant to even mention, but its there.
what kind of amp is it fonto?

actually some amps put out less power at 1 ohm than they do at 2. i know this is the case with some phoenix gold amps, and also if you look at JBL's GTi series amps you'll see they put out more power at 4 ohms than they do at 1! JBL's website doesn't give specs at 1 ohm, i'm guessing you'd lose power there.

actually, the jl slash amps put out a LOT more power at lower resistances than at higher ones
the other thing though, is that for the most part, damping, THD, and slew rate sometimes varies and usually drops at lower ohm loads.
you wont see home theater snobs running 1 ohm setups
yet a third thing to consider is if youre ever gonna upgrade your amp. power upwards of 1.5 kw is hard to find at non-1 ohm loads for a decent price

Did you do Carmedia for the Pricematch? ...it is an awesome deal IMO.
I called Sounddomain to see when they expect the Subs to be back in stock...and they aren't to sure when they will be in stock
...and he kinda implied that ID maybe releasing a newer model...but I dunno.
Just so everyone knows, Sounddomain will match most stuff from Ikesound (and Sounddomain is authorized).

If they are coming out with a new model I would get my name on the list now (and honestly, I wouldn't mind getting version 3, because that was my original plan)...if ID is coming out with a new model, I would think that Sounddomain will start selling 'em.
...I am just worried because I am going on Vacation soon, and I don't want two huge boxes sitting in front of my house.

i highly highly highly doubt ID is coming out with a new one. I talked to a few people and they said that id isnt in the middle of a redesign as of yet, and probably wont be for a decent time

i wish they'd make a IDMAX 15
the v3 is still relatively new. i bet they'll redo the ID series next if anything, or make new IDQ's and replace the ID's with the old IDQ's

new idq's are in the works as we speak, but they will be a strictly strictly sq woofer. very little output, and similar to the old idw's that were only released in 15" and 18" versions for sq (and the idw's still sell for a LOT)
also, for YEARS now id has been sayin that a larger idmax will be released, although i cant remember whether it was gonna be a 14, 16, or 17... whiterabbit knows
back on the topic of MY idmax, I called sd, talked to one of their guys, and he said that with ID he never gets an ETA, it could be 2 weeks, it could be 2 months, so i went ahead and decided to not put my oder through, just in case something new comes out, i change my mind, or i find one on the used market for a good price

Lud, I posted on the ID forum and Eric Stevens from ID said that they are no longer on backorder as of yesterday...Sounddomain should be getting them in the next few days.

where did you find this price match at? my plans change every day, but i'm thinking of a 2nd IDMAX (i know no one here is doing that
) but all i see is about $330 shipped. my sub budget is no more than $250, so i could use a pointer here. thanks!

Ok, i got your back man...get sounddomain to price match carmedia.com . They should give you a quote of $275.50 (not including shipping).
Keep in mind that Sounddomain is the only authorized dealer online, and that no one has 1st quality Maxes right now because of the shortage, not matter what they say...Sounddomain should have 'em soon.

I'm running about 400W RMS to each of my two 12s. If you got 2 4ohm DVCs and wire them each to 2ohm then wired that set to 1 ohm you would probably have enough power to run them. Build a good box for them and you are all set.
You probably should have started a new thread instead of hijacking this dead one

I live on the northside. near evanston/skokie. My maxes aren't in a great box right now but you are welcome to hear them. And you will know that when you get yours they will sound much better.
