I just noticed this yesterday. I was parked, and I had the music turned only to a reasonable volume and my headlights on. Whenever the subs hit, the headlights dimmed considerably. Would a capacitor or something fix this? I was just wondering; you really cant notice it when you're driving, but its there nonetheless. THanks.
yeah mine does that too...its our cheesy alternator's.I have a cap and it helps alot but doesnt get rid of it.Your best bet is to switch to class d or t amps...My sub was running a class AB amp and they dimmed like crazy then i got a class t amp which has like half the current draw and it's no where near as bad.

before the cap, i'd try 1. battery (optima, etc), if that doesn't get it where you are comfortable, then go alternator (ours are like 75 amp alternators, you can get 85 and 95 easily from an auto parts store, more than that, i'd venture to say you'd have to search a little more).
another battery will help it, a cap wont do ****, if you really want to do it right, upgrade your alternator from 70 amp to 150 amp like i did,
i have all these in my car, 3 batteries, 2 caps, and a 150 amp alternator, i dont have that dim light **** lol. pure power out of my car.

WASTE OF MONEY, BUT BETTER THAN NOTHING IF THEY ARE FREE.
AND CAPS ARE WASTELESS IF THEY ARE BY THEMSELVES YOU DUMB ******, WTF DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO, PUT A CAP IN WITH NOTHING ELSE LOL, OMG YOU ARE DUMB

ok. I see you have all of 8 posts. Don't assume that everyone else knows absolutely nothing. I think you have an anger management issue. You don't need to put on the caps lock and yell at everyone just to try to defend your way of thinking. Ok, they were free, so why didn't you put them up on ebay or something if they don't do ****?
And as for my initial question, how much is an upgraded alternator? I'm not going to push THAT many watts; by the time my sound system is done, maybe 2,000 RMS. So should the 95 amp be sufficient?

mmm...taters. Anyways, right now Im running a sony 400w RMS/1000w max amp to 2 8" audiobahns. However, in my room is sitting a JL 15w0-4 sub and a JBL p80.2 amp. That's 160w RMS; but its just a start. Once I get the money, I'll get another set of that sub and amp for the other side of the trunk, and I might get 2 or 3 12"s after that; i dont really know right now. Also, I already have Happies' grounding kit.

the p80.2 max curent draw is 24 amps
i looked for specs for sony amps but guess my vision is clouded from potatoe starch. I think most of the sony amps are class D amps so it too shouldnt have ALOT of current draw. But not sure, you didnt list the sony modle number. My suggestion would be start with a new good quality battery like an optima and go from there. Its possible the battery is weak to begin with. Im not sure if the price of a high output alternator would worth it. if you were in to SPL competition then sure get the new alt. Im just guessing that your not? If thats the case id start with battery, then possible a cap.

OK, YOU STUPID F***S, READ THIS CLEARLY
CAPS WITH NOTHING ON THEM ARE WORTHLESS, IF YOU PUT THEM ON BATTERIES, OTHER THAN THE ONE IN YOUR HOOD, THEN THEY ARE SOMEWHAT HELPFUL, BUT YOUR MONEY WILL GO FARTHER IN MORE CAR BATTEERIES THAN CAPS
I SEE WHY YOU GUYS ARE IN THSI FORUM, YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN, STOP ACTING LIKE YOU BOTH OWN HONDAS, YOU REALLY OWN TEN SPEED BIKES LOL
GOOD LUCK LOL
SIGHS
AND FOR THE RECORD, I DONT THINK YOU NEED TO TELL ME I GOT A ANGERMANAGEMENT ISSUE, FOR ****S SAKE, LOOK AT MY ****ING USER NAME YOU WORTHELESS ****
AND I SHOULD OF SOLD THEM ON EBAY, BUT..OH WELL, I LIKE THEM FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES.

It doesn't matter how many watts you have when it comes to lights dinning and alternator capacity. It matters how many Amperes your amps are drawing.Like my 380watt Class AB sony amp draws 45amps at peak and my new blaupunkt 350watt Class T amp draws 26 amps at peak. so there ya go about the same power but one amps has half the current draw.and they do have high output alternators for our cars but they are close to $300.I would suggest getting a Cap,A Optima batter and change all you BIG 3 wiring to 4 guage. Alternator to Battery,Batter to Chassis and alternator ground to chassis.....this helps alot because our alternators have very small wires supplying all the current to out batteries and the rest of the system.so making the pipeline bigger helps out ALOT!
yea, my light flickers a bit when i have my subwoofer bass turned on to the highest on my HU. I plan on getting a optima yellow top once my current battery starts gettin weak. Hopefully this will help. If you get a alternator that has a higher wattage output, wouldnt that cost a lot of $$$$$?

I've got two amps, and it only dims the lights when the deck first turns on. I don't listen too loud anyway. I would say a cap will stabilize the voltage, but it won't really fix the problem (not enough voltage). A bigger alternator will fix everything, but I think you're just bumping the bass

.............Rant back on
JUST SO YOU KNOW, YOU CAN GET THE ALTERNATOR THAT IS 150 AMP FROM ALTERSTART ON EBAY, HE OFFERS LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR 249.99 PLLUS 18.00 SHIPPING,
PRETTY DAMN CHEAP,
I HAD A GUY HERE IN FLORIDA, HE TOOK 2 WEEKS TO GIVE ME A QUOTE, AND IT WAS 430.00
THE ONLY THING YOU HVE TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU UPGRADE YOUR ALTERNATOR LIKE I DID, IS MAKE SURE YOU UPGRADE THE POWER WIRE RUNNING TO IT, OR YOULL BURN IT UP LIKE I BURN UP REPLY ABOVE ME, HES OBSESSED WITH ME BTW.
YOU HAVE TO GO FROM 8 GUAGE TO 4 GUAGE WIRE..
I HAD PLENTY OF THIS WIRE LEFT FROM MY OLD SYSTEM. SPEAKING OF WIRE, TALK ABOUT CUTTING 0 GUAGE, I RAN BLUE AND SILVER 0 GUAGE THRU MY WHOLE SYSTEM, ITS A BITCH CUTTING, SIGHS.
