Help!! Recieption problem!**updated** Problem found.
I just installed a Clarion DXZ635MP and everything works great but the tuner. Some radio station have reception problems. And 2 stations I can't get in at all. When I'm driving the reception fads in and out. I don't no what the problem is. Everything is hooked up correctly. And I check the rear connection on the antenna. Its fine. I don't know what to do. I talked to one of the local audio shops and was told that I might need a tuner booster. If that doesn't fix it than the HU has a tuner problem. Any ideas?

other accessories are sucking up too much power from teh radio from the ground usually, could be power.
increase the wiresize of the power wires on the radio, AM reception should improve.

Ok I am having some problems again. Its my antenna wire. It is plugged in all the way, but when I drive and hit bumps and stuff the reception will start to faded in and out. if I smack my dash it goes away. The it will start up again when I hit bumps in the road. I have taken the antenna wire out and reinstalled it 10 times. The other wires are not getting in the way of the antenna wire at all. Anyone know why the antenna wire isn't staying connected all the way? Its in all the way. I don't know what to do. I love the HU and when everything works right it sounds great. Little help please.

maybe the harness is f'ed up. could try dropping some solder in there, or maybe bypass the harness completely on that wire. worth a shot.
oh and you posted during the super bowl. that's probably why we're too pokey for you
. NE still sucks

I'm talking about the big black plug for the antenna. Also I grounded the black ground wire into my civic wireing harness. Think that I am having a bad ground issue?

ah my mistake. maybe ground the HU to the cigarette lighter location with a bigger wire. thta has solved problems in the past (though not reception related that i know of), and use a thicker wire, like 14 gauge or so.

Ok, I have an idea as to what the problem could be. Yesterday when I was having the reception problems it was 17 Degrees outside. Today its 41 and I'm not having the problem. Would the weather have anything to do with it? Would it effect it? I know that my Parents Conversion Van has problems with the tuner working when its really cold outside. Any thoughts on that? I'm just trying to figure out why over the last 2 days it would mess up and I would have to smack the dash to get it to work(below 20 degrees for a high), and to it doesn't mess up even if i smack the dash trying to get it to(its 41 degrees out).

maybe its because we have the antenna integrated into the glass, snow and ice and such could be causing the problem? i dunno, just an idea, its cold where i am, but no snow or ice, and its not as cold as it is up north, so i can't relate.

Well I don't have and snow or ice on my windows. And I used to have a JVC HU and never had this problem. See its like the plug on th HU that the antenna wire goes into is messed up. Thats the only thing I can think of. Unless the HU needs to get grounded somewhere on the car instead on the civic wiring harness.

you can try grounding it, but for some reason, that doesn't seem like its the problem (to me that is). hopefully someone here might have a better solution.

*****Problem Found*****
Ok I found the problem. My dad came out and looked at it with me. He does all the eletrical work on forklifts, so I figured he would be able to help.
Well it has nothing to do with the HU at all. Its my Antenna wire itself. See the wire goes into the plug with no problem, but isn't snug in there. There is a little bit of play. So we thought it was the wire connector that inserts into the plug itself. We found that out by pulling down on the plug while the radio was on and the reception started to fade. Problem solved. We opened the prones alittle bit more on the connector and it fits like a glove now. Then we noticed another problem. The connector fits perfect, but if we pulled on the wire again, it would start to loose reception a little. So it works fine for now, but if it messes up than I'm going to have to replace the antenna connecting plug. Make sense?
Now the new question is, does anyone have a diagram of the antenna wire for the car? Is the wire one piece all the way back to the window or does it plug in some where up front? Meaning if I have to replace the antenna connecting plug, can I just soder on a new plug or do I have to replace the whole wire? Thanks.

cool, that makes sense, i remember what the end of the antenna connector looks like, so it was just a loose connection.
i know it makes a connection behind the pillar in the rear of the car, on the passenger side, but i dont know of any other connections in the car (i bet there is more).

Harness goes from deck plug to a connector in the pass. kick. Then along the floor board to rear pass. pillar and plugs into ant. amplifier box. (Check plug on it also.)
I can't believe so many 7thgener's are having this same problem regardless of the HU brand. I been had this problem for 2 years now but since I only listen to CD's is don't matter, but I like sports talk radio too. Instead of doing all that prong stuff though can't I just connect the power att. wire to my relay and just send a signal to it like that?

Like i said, the Clarion I got has a little bit bigger plug insert. My JVC did not.
So far in the last two days, my reception has been perfect. No problems.
