Connection Problem
A while back, I was driving with the sub at a moderate volume when the amp all of a sudden cut off.. I think it is a connection problem with the power / grd. When I installed it last summer, the connections never seemed right. Its the screw clamp hold type (if that makes sence.. duno the name) of connection.. they gave me 4 gauge wire and the holes in the amp are 1/3 the size of the wire.. I went back to the local shop where i bought it.. the guy said it should be alright.. just to shave off enough wire to make it fit. So i did.. but then this happened. After it cut out, it turned back on a week later or so on its own.. then off again. So im guessing the wires are just loose. Tried to re-shave the wire but its just really frustrating to make it fit properly and doesn't seem right. There must be a better way.. is there a special connector that i need? Or did Rockford just make really really lousy connections?
Many amps only have 8 guage connections. I run 4 guage to a distrobution block in the rear of the car. Then from the block to each amp, but in 8 guage. Personally 4 guage is way to be to connect to an amp .... unless its something like a Rockford 1500bd pumping 3,000 watts or something.
What amp do you have ???
Also you can get a simple distrobution block at Radio Shack for about $10. That and a small piece of 8 guage wire would fix you right up.
