Help Please Components
I was wondering which 6 1/2 components to go for. I was looking at the Infinity Reference 6000cs.
1)Is that good for r&b music? I also listen to techno sometimes.
2)I saw them for $109 at Ike Sound. Now is that for two components or just one set?
3)Is a JBL P180.2 a good amp to power them?
4)Are there any other good speakers that cost a little more? I don't mind trimming the door panels except I want to be able to put the stock speakers back in and not have problems if I decide not to keep my car.
I've searched and I think these components don't require modifications, but I want them to be good for my application. These are Christmas presents from my girlfriend and she's going to buy me subs later on. Oh I drive a 2001 coupe btw.
Suggestions? Thanks

that specific component set is one of the one that the local audio shops i help out at uses frequently. i had them in my civic for a while, and they sounded incredible. hip-hop sounds good through them. but i also have a sub, which accentuates my lows. but for mids and highs, they sound great, which is what i assume you are buying these for. the MB Quart DSE-216's also sound good in there. you can find them for $149.00 at www.onlinecarstereo.com. they also have Diamond Audio M361 component sets for $159.00. I personally have never heard this component set, but ihave heard that they sound good as well.

o, and patience is a good thing, its sunday and football is on, so there aren't many people that would be on here browsing at the moment. i have a tv in here with my computer so it isn't a big deal to me, plus, the my team (the falcons) aren't on till tonight.
i have the 6000cs running off of a RF 201s amp, and it sounds kick ***. the 180.2 is an even better amp...so im sure it will sound good, if not better.
the highs are ear-peircing...the mid are also crystal clear...but it lacks much mid-thump
if you have subs in the trunk...then u will be set.
BTW...what kind of deck r u running the amp from

they would play those musics quite wel, actually, $109 is for everything you need, two midranges, two tweeters, and two crossovers.
the amp, like everyone else said, would be bitchin. its alot of power for those speakers, but you can always gain down, and that might help your sound, too.
its definitely a solid combination

Because if the P80.2 works as well, then I might just go with that since it's cheaper.

why downgrade, the Infinity's have a ungodly large magnet structure, and a pretty high power handling.....if you can afford the 108.2 then run it, you wont be sorry
as fars as Infinity vs. Diamond Audio
Infinity would probably be a better bet, the cheaper Diamond stuff is par at best. Hope that helps some....

Oh I forgot is an 8 gauge wire kit sufficent for the amp? It's a Rockford kit and it says it's good up to 350 Watts.
It's a complete kit for $34 on Sound Domain. Are there any other recommendations?

If you intend to run more than one amp in the future, go ahead and spring for a 4 gauge kit, witha distribution block. Scrap the glass fuses and run a circuit breaker. I kept blowing glass fuses until I ran a 150 amp circuit breaker, I was only running a 1000 watt(RMS) Infinity Kappa 2-channel, and 500 watt(RMS) 4-channel.

The amp will be ok running with the 4 gauge wire into it?
man... there's so many dist blocks I don't know which one to go with. How would I wire it?
Ok nevermind I've figured it out

it'd be cheaper to buy the wire off of rolls, as opposed to buying a kit. a good bit cheaper matter of fact. i'd venture to say you could buy at least 4 guage wiring cheaper than an 8 guage kit. just make sure you get the power wire (approx 15 ft.), ground wire (2-4 feet depending on where you mount it and where you want to ground), remote wire (about 12 feet), RCA's (12-14 feet), fuse & holder or circuit breaker, and distro block, if you plan on running more amps eventually.

I just mentioned this on another thread and feel it would be good to mention here as well
hehe.... Walmart has a dual amp wiring kit for like 20 or 25 bucks. most walmarts have it. It gives you everything you could need for two amps and its a good deal. Wire is wire, so it will definately work. Especially if you're not doing competition level stuff. It comes with enough power wire, a distribution block, rca cables, remote wire, everything. I used a different fuse with it because the one that comes with it for under the hood is stupid. Just something to consider.

those kits are ridiciously over-priced

i'm using the home depot wire right now, 4 gauge, the thing that sucks is the low strand count. if i did it over i'd go with the walmart kit or the ebay way, just because the wire is easier to work with.
there was a post on caf that disproved that, actually, I believe.
not the principle of physics, but its application to our power wires.
I believe it was MichaelP on the side of "strand count doesnt affect current capacity"

pliability is the main problem. sure it was easy to put through the firewall, but connecting to the battery took some muscle.
depot wire was cheap, i think i got 30 feet for under 15 bux

YAH That is a good deal
I priced matched from Ike Sound from Sound Domain.
I got it for $103. Shipping out on Monday due to no supply. I also priced matched the JBL P180.2 for around $130. All together I'm getting everything for $314CANADIAN free shipping USPS.
And the local store FUTURE SHOP charges 300CAN just for the speakers!

Technically with a lower strand count you would also get less power down the wire, since electricity travels on the outside of the strands. That and the pliability problems

since power wire is carrying 12V DC, the skin effect should not be a problem.
