so for a dream car audio system in our cars, where would be the best place to put our rear speakers? Yes, I understand that "no where" is going to be a common answer, but I like having backfill so where would be the ideal place for them to be? Up high? down in the side panels of the back seat? I have an 2001 EX coupe, by the way.
Oh....and would there be a big performance diff. between, say, a good set of 6.5s vs a good set of 6x9? i can't really see why there would be.
Thanks!!

a friend of mine moved his in his 6th gen. of course it required a lot of work to do, considering where his are now. anyway, he took the back bench out and put in two corbeau short buckets, and had the place between those two seats glassed in and has his in the pillar between the seats. it sounds incredible. he is thinking about putting some back in the stock locatino as well, but they do sound great with the one set between the newly installed buckets. as far as 6.5's -vs- 6X9's, it would depend on what kind of each you are talking about. if the 6.5's were midrange only, you'd notice a difference between them -vs- a 2 or 3 way set of 6X9's. it just depends on which speaker you are talking about, and all that good stuff.
Well you are right about "no where". It's so hard to get "perfect sound imaging". ESPECIALLY in a car. It's actually somewhat difficult to get good imaging in a house. Then when you're talking about a car, you have to consider all the absorbtion/reflecection of sound waves, the road noise, all that of that stuff. I don't know if you've ever heard of the car stereo competiton "IASCA" but it's a sound quality show. I'd find someone who entered that show and talk to them for a bit. I'm sure they can give you more pointers and tips.

theres iasca, theres usac, theres meca, theres a few others too...
but as to that, actually i have an article somewhere put up by a guy i know from other forums about rear speakers and having correct imaging... ill see if i can find it, but what hi remember him saying, is that im order to still keep a good stage but have rears, the rears would have to play only dedicated midrange

my rears would be in the stock locations. in teh side panels, i would fear their position wouldnt allow for significant raising of the sound stage.
however realistically, theres also a quesiotn about practicality, so in that respect, my REAL rear speakers sit on teh floor directly behind the center console, firing down.

if youre not going to take the time to properly aim everything and basically build your car around the sound stage...just put them in the stock location and use the added speakers to overcome the roadnoise and enjoy youre stereo.
