2 way alarms have a little pager that you attach to your key chain. It has a little LCD display with a picture of a car on it that shows whats going on with it. So if you start it, it will some how show that its running. If somebody opens a door it will show which door is open and such. It basically gives you notifications about the status of your car usually up to about a mile away.

Regular alarms are just the traditional alarm systems that have a standard remote. These are usually cheaper then the 2 ways but can be loaded with nice features.

Some good brands... Lots of people say to use DEI products, which consists of Clifford, Viper, Python, stuff like that. Most people have good things to say about those brands, I've heard some bad things from some people, but they tend to be pretty reliable. I personally have a Code-Alarm system on my car and I absolutely love it. I wrote a review about it somewhere in the I.C.E. forums real recently, so that will tell you more about the code-alarm systems. Hope this answers all your questions

Yeah, I like CodeAlarm (thats what all my cars have). They have a nice "2-way" pager setup.

2 ways are nice if you get a remote start /alarm to let you know when your car starts. A 2 way pager IMO is annoying for an alarm and what are you going to do if it does go off? Run to your car everytime? If someone breaks in the damage has already been done to your car and odds are by the time you get to your car, whoever broke in already has your deck and will be gone.
Personally I think its a waste on money unless your only getting it to know when your car starts.
