W7 w/500watts louder than TDX w/1200watts, how?...

i posted a few days ago about some cars my local shop was working on, one was a 99 or 00 civic si. the si has two 12W7's with a 500/1 on each, and they are in sealed boxes. the car is going to enter SPL and SQ competitions, so when in SQ comp, one woofer can be turned off for better SQ.
i listened to this beast today, and wow, one 12W7 with 500watts was louder than my 12" TDX which is running 1200 watts. is that W7 really that loud? its pretty darn impressive in my books, i never thought it was that nice.
it was so nice, i started thinking about getting one (i probably wont though, unless i sit in that damn car again - must resist that si).
maybe i should sound deaden my car some more, because that si is plastered with dynamat.

Install...........its all in the install. Plastering the trunk with dynatmat also helps. 1 question, when the car is playing musuc loud with the doors closed, windows up, can you hear anything outside the car? just trying to get an idea of how much dynamat was used.

i dunno how it sounded outside, but i remember the shop owner saying something like if you removed all the plastic panels, you would not see any metal at all, its all covered by dynamat. i guess that shiet really helps, i mean, it was so damn loud, i almost cried.

w7's are very efficient when using power. a 500/1 is modest, you could easily run a 1000/1 on each.

lol, you crack me up WhiteRabbit, got any pics of your setup btw?

i know the install in that si is good, thats why the W7 sounds awesome, i need to hear some regular installs, where people dont have much, or no sound deadening, and the woofer is in a regular MDF box in the trunk, then we'll see what a W7 sounds like (hell, if i feel like it, i might buy one, stick a 1000/1 on it, see what happens).

any known members on this board with a W7?

ive done an install with a pair of 10's, but it wasnt a civic, so i couldnt say about the accoustics in a civic, but i must say the 12w7 is by far my absolute favorite woofer. more audiophile oriented people tell me their favorite is the 10w7, but theres just too much of a lowbass fan in me to prefer the 10 over the 12. but i cant deny its an awesome woofer, too

im in the same boat as you, in a different way. heres what i had for a long time:

http://www.calpoly.edu/~sciccare/for%20sale.JPG

sounded SO loud in the car, but posted numbers so low i struggled to qualify in dbdrag, and never placed ever. funny how the ear senses something different than the mic...

custom2k1 has had the same problems. sounds loud, meteres low.

i wish you two could get mics in your cars, i be curious to see who meters higher on the dash

i might get my car metered soon, along with a truck with four tdx 15's, and a the civic si with the two 12's. the shop owner seem to think that my car is loud enough to hit low 140's, but i beg to differ, i've seen setups were people hit low 140's with more woofers than me, and more power.
hopefully this week i'll get metered, see what happens.

i was listening to the si again today, i really like that W7, i dont know, but i might make the jump from diamond audio to JL soon, as much as i like loudness, the SQ out of the W7 was something else, even at low volumes.

hey whiterabbit, got any pics of your kicks? i remember seeing a pic of them before, and was interesting in seeing them again.

My friend was sponsored by JL, and he works at a local audio store here in town (one of the best in the los angeles area i might add).
But anyway, he got a deal on 3 13w7's and 6 1000.1's. (i know, you think "just another false story")

His install was extremely clean, and it sounded amazing. He went from 3 type-r 10" to these W7's, and the quality was improved 100x.

anyway, here is his car before he did that install. I dont have any pics of it after.

Hey slick, if you decide to get a W7 I might buy your TDX and maybe your amp if you're thinking about getting the JL amp. Depends on how much you want for it

i was talking with the guys from advantage, if i give them my 300.2, 1200.1, and TDX for store credit plus an extra $600 or so, i can get a 300/2, 1000/1, and 13W7 in one of those sealed JL boxes plus some 1/0 gauge wiring. i'm gonna see what my other choices are first.

why would you get rid of both amps? Are you not happy with the 300.2? I thought you just wanted to maybe try a new sub and sub amp.... a 13W7 would be awesome though

onlinecarstereo.com, but it would be better to buy from an authorized dealer... IMO. I used to buy everything online, but have recently started trying to buy more from a local dealer, thats just me though.

for looks

a 300.2 looks wierd next to a 1000/1. but seriously, i like the fact that the 300/2 makes 150watts x 2 @ 1.5-4 ohms, while the 300.2 makes 75watts x 2 @ 4 ohms, and 150watts x 2 @ 2 ohms.
there are too many choices to be made, if i switch, i will get the 300/2, but as far as sub amp and sub go, i dunno yet.
