When i went to put in a new deck i found that my ignition switch wire has no
voltage. does anyone know how this could be? it worked fine before. is there a fuse or some
other place i can trace that wire back to?

Try checking the not so obvious fuses. The wire gets power at the fuse box under the steering wheel, or under the hood. Thats where ALL the wires in your car get power.
