x-over question

I have cross overs on both my head unit and my amps. Which one do I set or do I set them both? Thanks.

You can set both if you want.

depends.. usually you would go with the better quality equipment to do the crossover.. if the one on the amp is a variable one, then use that instead.. there is more room for tweaking..

I wouldn't set both. The more crossovers you have, he worse sound quality gets. I'd use the one on the amp

I would use the ones on the amps. You never know how steep the crossover slope on the HU's crossovers are because they usually don't say. What if it is like a 6 db per octive x-over...you don't want to use that.

My personal preference is to go with whatever component has the steepest crossover. You can use more then one and the will cascade and make a steeper slope...but it will be hard to tell where the true crossover point is (where -3dbs is).

Why is it that when I make the adjustments I don't hear any difference? The mids are getting too much bass so I set the cross over at 100hz and there was no change, I played around with different numbers and it was the same. Is there something wrong with it? I can't figure any of this out because alpine doesn't explain sh%t in there manuals.

I bet the Alpine crossover that your talking about is on your head Unit. It is probably not the greatest crossover so you should use the one on the amps. The reason why they don't explain ish in the manual is prolly because the x-over is less then 12 dbs per octave.

You bet correct, I'll have to use the one on the amps.
