JL Amp Question?
alright, i am almost ready to re-install my amp and sub back into the vic (the new glass sub floor/amp rack is almost done). and i have already had this hooked up before, and it sounded phenominal. anyway, i have the JL 500/1 Mono, and have a Virtual Technologies RIP Hammer 10 that will handle up to 1000 watts. my question is, can the JL amp be bridged to more than the 500 watts? i have heard several times, that no matter what you do, the JL amps will not go over the peak wattage that is shown. meaning that i can't install a line driver, up my input voltage, etc. and get over the 500 watts rating. is this information correct, or is JL and my local audio dealer telling me bull-ish?
The amp is rated at 500 watts at 1.5-4 ohms. Which means no matter how you bridge it, you're only gonna get 500 watts. Perhaps a little more or less, I'd suggest after you have it hooked up, test it with a digital multimeter. Watts=(voltage x voltage)/Resistance...

Well the JL 500/1 is putting out a little more then 500 watts since its under rated, i forget the actual wattage. But, I have only seen one Virtual Technologies sub in my life before and some kid brought it into our shop blown out after sticking it on 800 watt MTX amp, so maybe 500 (give a little more) will be good for the sub. But, if these subs are really better then I am giving them credit for remember that you can blow a sub easier with a lack of power rather than to much, so be careful.

i buy my VT stuff direct from the manufacturer. its cheaper, and they are a local company. they told me if i blew the sub, as long as it was at or below the reccommended wattage, that they would replace it, and give me a second sub as well. in 4 years at the local audio shop, they have sold close to 1000 of these subs(all models). two, yes two, are all that have ever been brought in blown. damned good numbers if you ask me. im about to get rid of my RIP hammers, and take my car to VT's shop and let them build me a box for two of their competition woofers (the Hammer Deadblow). the box will be made to fit my car and my car only, and it will be built for optimal sound out of these two woofers. im also getting one of their amps. those subs freaking rock, i have heard one before. they handle up to 3500 watts apeice.
