I got them running off an Alpine CDA 9807 MP3 player and an MTX 6304 4 ch amp pushing 69.9 w x 4 @ 4ohms @ 14.4 VDC and I got it on HIGHPASS, have the equalizer set at minimum (or freq) forgot which one, and when turned up, the speakers (when playing low range), it comes out distorted and sounds like its gonna pop. This only happens at pretty high volumes, and the gain is probably set at 95% whats wrong? I have a CLEAN amp and clean components, CLEAN headunit, and the dial on the amp all the way down (i believe its called a crossover?) . When i turn it up, it only amplifys the distorted bass. The effect gets even WORSE when the amp is set at FULL RANGE. What is wrong here? The speakers seem REAL good quality, but the surrounds seem waaay too thin to handle any bass.. any ideas?

I know i have a FREQ and EQ dial on my amp, whats the diff?

Im using the same speakers, and similar wattage, and i also had that problem when i installed mine. Here was my solution...........

First off, did you make a spacer for your speakers? Those speakers will not fit directly in because of the speaker depth. If they are just sitting there not sealed against the door its acting as if its in a free air enviorment, which will cause a loss of frequency responce





these are speaker baffles. 7.99$ at cruchfield.

You have to create a boxed(somewhat sealed) enviorment for this speaker to sound good in our doors, to get any good bass responce.

Now you may have problems fiting this in, if you dont make a custom 3/4" spacer, to allow more room for the magnet

Yes, i think thats it. I noticed my passenger side door distorted, but not my driver door, i used a proper sealed-ring plastic spacer for the drivers side and used standoffs for the passenger side (free air environment) I guess thats why. Those baffles.. im gonna have to get those. would those make a big difference as opposed to having nothing behind the speaker but still using a sealed spacer?

OK! so your driver side is sealed against the door, and it sound good. YOur passenger speaker is not sealed, doenst sound good. Yea definitly try those baffles. If you dont want to order from crutchfield, try best buy they sometimes have them in stock.

Do i need th ose baffles in order for it to sound good? cause I just ordered the fat mat door kit (2 12x12" pieces) how bout i used that along with both speakers sealed against the door?

Mango, its all preference, i also use them to protect them just incase they ever got wet or anything because they are water proof.
