depends how much u pay for it i guess. i got mine from pep boys, and they charged like 160 or sumthin, u can probably get it cheaper from other places tho. if u get the normal yellow top, it wont fit properly with the stock battery tie down or wutever its called. i think they have a newer, smaller one made for hondas or sumthin like that. i just bent my tie down and stuck a small block of wood in to hold the battery down.

forgot the site, but somewhere, a while back it was being sold on the net for $80 something. if you do get one, make sure you get the group 51 size, it is made for the smaller battery compartment of the civic.

id go with the redtop if you are gonna replace the factory battery. it was designed more for starting applications, and has nearly the same reserve charge as a yellowtop

im suggesting it migh tbe the better choice for an all around battery as a replacement for your starter battery. If i were to replace my starter battery, id personally go for the redtop.

the yellowtop was designed to be a high capacity deep cycle battery. and when you look at the reserve charge rating, the yellowtop will last 10 minutes longer than the red, only. So you get the battery designed for starting yrou vehicle, with nearly the same charge as the yellow.

thats why i reccommend red over yellow.

I have a grp 51, and have not had any problems. It helped with my stereo, and i can leave the car running a lil longer than i could with thte stock battery. Downfall on the grp51 is that the terminals are reversed, it is hard to explain but they are on the oppisite side of the car from where they were stock.

White rabbit is right though going with a red top might be better, infact i have had mine since July and i am thinking about the upgrade soon.

There is a place on the net that is a reg optima seller and they have them for like 90 bucks shipped. I posted in another link about a mth ago the website.....try and serach could save you some money!

the red top battery would be better because it is a starting batt, the yellow top is a deep cycle designed to discharge and then charge not the partial discharge and charge of a red top useing a yellow top as a starting batt could eventual lower the capacity of the yellow top

I have a yellow top in my truck. I don't drive it often, mostly the civic. The truck cranks much faster than with a normal battery and starts no problem even after 2 or 3 monts sitting. I plan to put one in the Vic soon. I LOOOOVE the optima. BIG difference, especially for I.C.E.
The yellow top is great for amps and such. The BLUE top is a deep cycle marine battery and not suited for our cars. The yellow is OK.
Expensive, but I think worth it.

well, theres no reason you cant use something other than its intended use. theres no reason you CANT use a yellowtop or even a bluetop as yoru starting battery.

I'm merely suggesting that the redtop from a current producing capability (which is most likely your primary concern considering the stereo) is nearly the equal to a yellowtop. in fact, at 30 amp draw, it will only last 10 minutes longer! 10 minutes!

and yet the redtop was designed to run as a primary battery, whereas the yellowtop was designed to run as a secondary battery.

But you are totally right, and I agree with you, that from a sheer improvement point of view, the yellow, red, and bluetop all will give you much better performance than your stock battery.

you might not be able to use the stock battery tray but yeah, a bluetop will fit. as long as the tie bar goes around it till be secure, no worries

i got the Optima Yellow Top Deep Cycle.... the D34... the biggest one, it fits in the tray... but i needed to fabricate a battery tie down for it, b/c the stock one couldnt fit around it.... very easy to do... $6.90 for a strip of aluminum and i used the stock j-hook and screws...
