Help! MAJOR ENGINE NOISE & WHIRLING

I dunno what happened...when i had one sub in my car there wasnt any noise and nowthat i put in another thheres crazy noises! I know its gotta be something with the wiring in my car...the grounds are good so it cant be that.
On the driver's side of the car runs two sets of rca cables, speaker wires from the left side of my components
On the passenger's side is the power wire, the right side of the component speaker wires, remote sensor wire to the headunit. i've got a lot of slack in some areas so i'm not sure if that could be the prob and the way i routed all the wires(through the side panels on both sides and under the rear seat. I have two amps...one for the subs and one for the components. I grounded both of the amps to the back of the rear seats at the bottom corner. No clue what to do next...tried everything!!! Thanks in advance.

I would bet on either the headunit or the ground for the amps. I know you said you've checked the ground, but what do you have them ground to? They need to be ground to an actual part of the chasis, not just any metal will do. It sounds like everything else is ok. You just need to make sure your RCAs don't cross the power wire at any point at all as well.

This is some good things to test to try to figure out where the noise is coming from...

I doubt it's your amp. However, Try getting a 10 amp noise filter from your local radio shack or Best Buy or something like that. Usually they should have noise filters for people like you guys.

If you guys are using the regular CRAPPY RCAs and speaker wires.. they are single plane shielded so they'll let in A LOT of engine noise and electrical noise.

However, if you're willing to drop some extra money, go with some higher end interconnects and speaker cables.

My recommendations are the:
Interconnects (RCAs)
Rockford Fosgate Stealth Twisted
Monster MicroXLN (XLN == xtra low noise)

Speaker wire
Monster XLN speaker cable.

All these cables are twisted and heavily shielded to prevent engine noise from getting into your music.

As you mentioned above, try running the ground of the HU to the same point as the ground of the amps. I did this and all my whining went away.

I've tried the noise filters from radio shack and they seem to be decent, but I think its the lazy way of doing it. It doesn't seem to get rid of all the noise. There is no replacement for just correcting the problem the way it should be. I'd follow the steps suggested in that crutchfield article so you can at least narrow down the source of the noise. Whether its the Headunit, Amp, or something in between. Good luck!

If you are running 2 amps.. make sure your amps are grounded at the same point! Or you'll have MAJOR feedback noise.

Did you move any of the wiring around when you added the sub? Did you take the radio out for any reason?

I always thought it was better to have them grounded in the same place as well. I dunno though.

the noise floor in a car is so high that if PROPERLY ROUTED, youll never hear a difference... ive switched between radio shack rca's and stinger rca's and never heard a single difference...

also, speaker wire does not pick up noise, especially when running an aftermarket amp. rca's are oinly dealing with 1-4 volt signals, which are down at the level where noise is a problem, when dealing with a 20 volt ac signal, .1 volts will not really be an issue... ive routed power wires next to speaker wires without a SINGLE problem...
