plexiglass
i was thinking of making a box out of acrylic plastic, but i called up some local plastic shops and they charge over $600 for a sheet of 4x8 3/4" plexiglass. is there anywhere online where i can get it for cheaper? all i can find is 1/4" online for sale. ill probably go mdf newaiz, but would it be ok if just part of the box was 1/4" plastic? like just a little square or sumthin to see through.

3/4" plexi at home depot? 3/4" plexi is some expensive stuff... also with plexi you have to buy spacial blades for says to cut acrylic or else youll end up with cracks and burrs.. also youd need a buffer to polish the edges so it doesnt look all shitty..
it takes some time and practice to work with plexi and not have imperfections

they have pre-cut pieces at home depot as well. you can get it a wide array of sizes. a full sheet is around 65 here. in 1/2 inch plexi of course. 3/4 is about 100 per sheet. as far as cutting, i used a jigsaw with a fine toothed blade, and took my time. you have to be careful because if you go too fast, the speed will re-melt the plexi and it'll weld itself back together. i have never had a problem while cutting, and it never looks as if it weren't professionally done. sand down the burrs, and then work your way from 500 grit sand paper to 2500 grit. looks good every time. it takes time, but if is the look you want, then its worth it. also, you could even make a water box, which looks incredible. i helped fab one for a friend. you just have to make sure every possible opening is sealed. but it looks good when you put in the neon, and have colored waves. time consuming as hell though.

ive only worked with hella thin plexiglass b4, 1/8" for a school project, and i just used a heated knife, and then snapped it. but then that probably wont work with something 3/4" thick, but my friends dad owns a cabinet making store, and he sed he could help me with wutever cutting i needed cuz hes done hella work with plexiglass. i guess ill check out home depot tomorow and see how much they sell it for. thanks guys
3/4 Plexi is $100 by you PopcornPlaya? hmm....I could have sworn it was only $50 here...oh well, maybe i'm wrong...unless its priced differently by region. If you have a Lowes by you dKj, they will cut it for you for free if you buy it there....so thats always an option...I donno if they have those in Cali. though.
