sub system in car.. for house?
Is it possible to use a subwoofer system made for a car
using its
car amp
subs + box
wiring
and put it into your house?
I want to buy a sub system for my car, but Ill be going off to college real soon, and i wont be driving it as much (come back for major holidays and bring it to college sophmore or junior year)
so im thinking, if I can stick the subs in my house whenever I need it to be, itll be worth the buy, even though Im not using it in the car.
replies would be great!

Or you can buy something like this:

and build a nice box for it for the home.

As for the power supply, go to Radio Shack and get a 13.5v adapter, chop the ends off. Now just wire that up, and it's enough power for a decent amp...it's what I used to have hooked up, until I sold it all, I never had a problem with it.
Power is a function of current and voltage.
In home audio you start w/ 120v, therefor even 3 amps is a lot of power. In car audio you start w/ 12v, so you need a lot of current to get a fair amount of power.
From radio shack: Heavy-Duty 10-Amp Regulated, Dual-Purpose Power Supply $79.99
I'd be surprised if you could even have that one work for long. Most amps have 20+ amp fuses in them.
Hell even my Pioneer HU has a 10 amp fuse I think.

car amplifiers are inherrently dirty, id reccommend the use of a real amplifier for the home if you go that route.
try borrowing an osciliscope sometime and hook it to the outputs of yrou amplifier, and see how soon teh signal clips. I think youd be surprised

i wanted a reply on your subs awhile ago.. but you never responded

they are just tottaly different animals. home theater versus caraudio. very difficult to get a car audio woofer to work in a home.
in the house, caraudio speakers tend to be VERY directional, and soften significantly as distance increases from the cone. its especially bad with subwoofers. axis doesnt even have anything to do with it.
and car amplifiers are jsut so goddamn dirty, theres no point even considering that. not even. at least with speakers you can worm through a box design, theres a way to do it.... amplifiers, its a waste of time.
i have to check my private messages manually now, this forum doesnt like me operating through PM, it says no new messages, but ill doublecheck
