one last time about the truck ....
one last time about the truck ....
So the new Ford Ranger has 6x8's in the front and rear door and I want to keep the back free (so no sub box).
I wanna do 6x8's up front and either cut out for 8's or do another set of 6x8's for the rear.
Should I ....
A) 6x8's all the way around, 4-channel amp
B) 6x8's all the way around, 4-channel amp, and cross the rears over as "subs"
C) 6x8's up front, 4-channel amp, cut the rear doors into a circle and put an 8" in
For the doors Crutchfield says I have 4 1/2" up front and 4 7/8" in back of depth.
If I do an 8" in the back I am thinking JL. They have an 8" IB and then the W0, W3, etc. I think the IB is the obvious choice but can I do one of the others without making a custom enclosure? I just don't wanna get as involved as a custom enclosure .....
Now crutchfield has baffles for speakers and subs too, all the way up to 12". Will these even be useful to me for my 6x8's or if I put in an 8"? BTW why would one need a baffle for a 12" sub?
I am thinking of Fatmatting all the doors too. How much of a difference should I expect?
Here's the baffles:

Here's the 6x8's I wanna use ($80 on ebay): http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N
I know a lot of you guys do installs so help me out. I started hanging on a A/V forum on a Ranger only site. OMG that site is so slow. No one ever responds. Apparently I'm a too lame for them ...... I don't want to get crazy and do a blow through .... haha.

Didn't you have Diamon HEX components in your civic? You are gonna be sorely dissappointed with the sound from 6x8 coax speakers. I still say components up front and perhaps a Q-Logic box for the rear.

I was looking at the Tremor version of the Ranger on Ford's site and noticed that it's got a 485watt system. Probably not as nice as a properly built custom system, but there was one thing I noticed:
"10-inch Subwoofer Mounted in the Rear Deck of the Passenger Cabin"
Have you seen this? You might want to go to a Ford dealer and look at their Tremor to give you an idea of mounting a similar sub in the same location.

Well I have been doing math exercises ...... and heres what I have come up with.
If I cut out a hole for an 8" speaker in the door (7" actual), I can make a slip in basket and then use a 6.5" JL sub (WO model) in there. This will result in about 60% of the airspace recommended for the 6.5" sub. What do you think of that?
The other option is to use an 8" Infintie baffle sub. Dunno if I can get them.
What would happen if I just use a regular W0 in the door in an infinite baffle setup? The IB sub has much higher Q figures than the other subs ..... anyone care to explain?
Also any advantages to putting foam baskets around the front 6x8's other than water protection?
Ludlam, Whiterabbit ....... opinions?

personally, I would go aperiodic, but that would take you QUITE some time to do
the beauty of aperiodic is you can use any 8" sub
im eventually doing inverted aperiodic 8w3v2's in my doors

Interesting concept.
The speaker is 4" deep, and I only have 5" of depth so I doubt this would work.
Any other thoughts. How do IB setups usually sound? I have never heard one .....

for aperiodic you wouldnt need much depth at all... teh beauty of ap enclosures is their incredibly small size...
if you look at the stickied thread up top with the sites, one of them has a link for how to put 12's in your doors using an aperiodic enclosure...
