ZSKCivic01 and components issues

There have been many posts about ZSKCivic01 blowing his JL components. Well a few days ago we talked on IM, then again last night. I got looking afterward and we have all been wrong about some things.

1) The amp is 75 rms, 150 max @ 4 ohms and the speakers are 70 rms, 150max. So the amp should be fine. It is about a perfect a match as you can get.

2) We were wrong about the HU voltage. It is: Pre Output Voltage (Before Clipping) : 4V Subwoofer (2V Front and Rear) So actually it isn't a 4v output to the amp. Its only a 2v output to the high, only the sub gets 4v. In this case ZSKCivic01 you can probably go to the 3v or 4v setting without worry.

3) Something that came out in our talks is that he was running the bass @ 5-7. Now the bass specs are: Bass Level Control Range : ±14dB at 60Hz (2dB steps) Since its a 2db step adjustment this makes me think that +5 is actually a 10db boost and +7 is a 14db boost. I am positive this is what lead to the speakers blowing. Generally things for the components need to be flat. I would think +1 is a lot and +2 as way too high. There is a independant sub level control that should be used for getting more bass via uping the sub output independantly: Subwoofer Level Adjustment Range : -15dB to 0dB (1dB steps) I would say maybe put the level in the middle. Then set the sub gain. Then you can go up or down 7db from there by controlling it from the deck.

Also something that might help is setting the internal high pass crossover to 80hz. It has: High Pass Crossover Frequency (Selectable) : Off, 80Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz That will help keep bass off the components too.

Good luck.

thats not true, I never said they were all on zero. I have had the bass on my HU up pretty much the whole time at around 5-7.

So this: "Something that came out in our talks is that he was running the bass @ 5-7. Now the bass specs are: Bass Level Control Range : ±14dB at 60Hz (2dB steps)" is a setting on the HU and not the amp?

yea, the bass settings on my HU. My amplifier basically hasn't been the problem throughout this whole mess, its most likely been my HU giving too much bass to my speakers.

Basically your undoing what your crossovers are trying to do.

They should be filtering out bass, probably on a 6db or 12db slope.

You were adding 10db or 14db of bass back in.

The manual says:

OUTPUT POWER RATING(14.4V Battery)
4 Ohm Load - 150x2
2 Ohm Load - 230x2
1 Ohm Load - -------
Mono bridged into 4 Ohm - 500x1

Here is the link to my type of amplifier:

Doesn't every specifically state rms or max.

If its max you want about 3v, if its rms you want about 5v on the amp gain setting I would imagine.

For some reason it doesn't specifically state whether it is RMS power or max. Im assuming its max, because it is at 5v right now and those components aren't playing extrememly loud.

I just e-mailed hifonics and they told me that the 150W is RMS power. So I guess ill keep the amp pretty low, I think it is already set at around 5v.

I know that, personally, im tired of listening to them extremely loud anyways. I think the gain at 5V is loud enough now, and at 5V, it isn't ear bleeding loud.
