opto_isolator, I installed the fatmat the same as you did. It took me two hours or more to make sure it was sticking. I think the engine heat is just too much for the adhesive to handle. However, I have dynamat in my trunk and that stuff will NEVER come loose.
I need TP for my bunghole

Damn, that sucks. I wish the hondas of today had the hood liner like my 89 si crx then you could adhere that **** to the back of that and snap the liner back into place.
Doc C -- Report them to the Better Business Bureau - www.bbb.org. they are false advertising a money back guarantee.
Good luck people!

Yep, they are basically full of it... they continue to insist that they have not heard of this problem, and that it is my fault for installing it improperly. I installed it in EXACT accordance with the install instructions, and it took me > 2 hours to do it.
Here is their reply

We sell thousands upon thousands of items monthly and we have had very few complaints, and the reason for this is that the product when installed properly does not fall off, nor can you really even pull it off without some serious work. Being that this is an industry that we specialize in we know exactly how well our products stick and work. Unfortunately our satisfaction guarantee does not warrant the use of the entire package but rather 20% of it. Testing a piece on an area of your vehicle is the good
way to go about making sure the products going to work for you. Also if
you have some extra time check out all the thousands of wonderful post located on the net on how great FatMat really does work. Searching hard enough you will find complaints on any product ever designed, but our ratio of satisfied customers is 98.3% and that's a terrific ratio. We simply cannot refund a customer when they try our entire product and installed it improperly. If you were to buy a car and wreck it the company will not give you your money back, and for good reason. If you were willing to be fair about this you probably could understand our reasoning. If our product is installed properly, it WILL NOT fall off. If you would like to try again we would be willing to sell you another hood liner at 1/3rd of the cost. This is the best we can offer you, very sorry.

This is the guarentee they are putting up on their site:
Funny, since when I bought it I remember reading something about it being guarenteed to stick or my money back. Can't seem to find that on there now.....
We are so confident that you are going to be 100% satisfied with FatMat we are offering a 7 day money back guarantee. When you get your product you may sample up to 20% of the item. If for some reason you are not satisfied, simply call us and we will will authorize the return and provide you with a RA #. Please call us if you have any questions.

That's too bad about the guarantee. They actually say that fatmat alone is not designed to be used under the hood where it gets hot. But even the foam is peeling from the fatmat! I don't know how else to make it stick.

Only thing I can think of is to remove it and see about using some high quality adhesive (unlike what they used) to re-attach it back to the hood. That's probably what I'm going to do when mine starts peeling worse than it is. I don't want it to get into the moving parts!

Fatmat is all the same. The stuff under the hood would be the same as any other product they have. I would say get dynamat extreme--I used it and it will never ever peel off. Fatmat comes right off when it gets a little hot.
As for the hoodliner fatmat, I got some of that all-purpose clear cement glue and put some on the bottom where it was peeling./ It holds okay now, but the heat keeps ruining it. I even sprayed some heat resistant carpet adhesive to the foam, but it still peels!

well, thats not the fatmet itsself, thats jsut the crap youve but between it to ruin the bond itself, the clear cement glue, the spray adhesive, its not fatmat itself, its liek drywallign a house and the tape comes unglued, its not cuase the tape sucks for drywalling, its cause you ruined the natural adhesive surface of the fatmat
then again, you could always argue that if you had the potential to ruin the surface, and that potential didnt exist with teh dynamat extreeme.....

I too think that the fat mat is an inferior product. Not just the hood liner, but the asphalt mat as well. I still have a lingering odor in my car after 4 months, wheras when I applied the dynamat extreme there was no odor what so ever. Additonally, the fat mat didn't seem to stick as well as the dynamat.
The sound deadening properties were pretty much the same - but overall I think its def. worth it to spend a few dollars more and be a happy customer. Remember the old adage, you get what you pay for.
