I'm looking to do a stealth install, I wanna have the option of covering up my subs and amp on ocassion when transporting cargo for school/work. I PMed Ludlam for some ideas, he suggested the WRX install WhiteRabbit did a while back.
With Cover On
With Out
I really like the install, it's exactly what I need. I just wanted to know if i could mount 2 10's and an amp slanted/tilted in a setup similar to that (in our trunks)?
My subs are Xplods 1036... Yeah, I've heard that Sony's aren't the greatest, but I'm not looking for heart pounding bass, otherwise I would have bought a pair of W6's from my friend back home.
Here's the parameters of the subs:
Sony XS-L1036
Impedance 4ohm
d(mm) 210
d(inch) 8.3
Rdc(ohm) 2.8
Fs(Hz) 25.4
Qts 0.33
Qes 0.35
Qms 4.69
Vas(Lit.) 51.6
Vas(Cu. Ft) 1.82
Mms(g) 130.7
Lvc(mH) 1.2
Xmax (mm) 4.3
Xman(inch) 0.17
BL(Tm) 13.0
Enclosure vol.(Net) 20Lit.(0.7 cu. ft)
Can anyone instruct me on how to fabricate this setup? I'm gonna have a friend who knows abit more about car audio then I do, help me out on this, but I would appreciate some sort of guildeline if at all possible.
Thanks!
Gus

gus, check it out. start with the floor guide thats already on this site, build it. the floor doesnt have to be the right shape, youll cover it anyways.
once thats in, you cut out a great big rectangle out of MDF, as wide as you can, extending from teh back of the trunk to the front. this will cover most of the floor, after that its jsut the two sidepieces.
grab some 2x2 wood, and build a frame around the subwoofers. once this is in place, you cna carpet the box, JUST the baffle and the sides of the 2x2's extending on top a bit to pad the top. place the large square you cut in and determine where you want the window, cut it out.
to do the sideieces, grab some posterboard and trim a bit till its the right size on teh sides, fits yoru contour. then trace and cut MDF. make sure your tracing at teh heiht the trunkfloor will be!
the sides will need supports, since the center piece will rest on the box, but the sides wont. so measure the distance from teh floor to the falsefloor, cut a support for each side, attatch it to teh sides
then you simply line the pieces up and carpet the top. the carpet acts as the hinge.
fold teh sides onto the big square, then place into teh car, then fold out the sides and smooth out the creases.
then you cut a square the size of teh hole, and cut a bunch of holes in it as well, to let the sound out. use GRILL CLOTH, not boxcarpet, as i have done. we are going ot have to pull that out and fix it, we dont want any sagging liek that in his car!
we added the nubs to hold the floor in place before we carpeted, just any little piece of wood
the loop was a piece of carpet folded on itself, attatched to teh side of the floor cover.
done!

id do regular fatmat if i were you.
also, not epoxy resin, youd want to use polyester resin, found here.
www.tapplastics.com
along witht eh resin youll need hardener, MEKP
also youll need fiberglass
youll need screws
wood glue
silicon
some bondo to do some finish work if youre working with curves
im sure i can think of more crap youll need

Ok so if I want to mount my subs slanted inside this setup thenit would look something like this if looking at it from an angle cut, right?
So Basically it one big box, that houses three other small boxes. 2 for the subs and 1 for the amp?!
Also if I wanted to slant it more so that they face the front then I cut one of the beams a little bit shorter height then the other.

Ok! I went to home depot earlier today to get these pieces cut, I took them from the DIY on this site, but I just realized that I could have made the bottom a bit wider... Thank GOD I still have a good amount of MDF left over enoungh to cut the extra pieces and make the cover.

Got the wood cut to the right sizes now, gotta borrow a drill from my friend tomm and assemble the box.
Then I'll be done with step 1.

Went to Bondo's website, soo many types of bondo available. Which is the correct one for this application?
Ohh BTW, thanks for the explanation last night Ludlam. Actually what I meant was, do I leve a gap running wires with something(ex: chicken wire or some sort of mesh barrier) to keep the bondo away from the terminal ends?
