Hey everyone, I have a JL 12w3v2 and I just got it the other day. I installed it and I just finished taking out of the box to re-do the wiring. I had been listening to it for about 20 minutes before I took it out of the box and when I touched the magnet on the very bottom, it was really hot, almost hot enough not to touch. Is this normal?

speakers dissipate power. subs dissipate lots more power than speakers in your car. power can be dissipated as sound or as heat, and most subs do plenty of both of these. hence why most subs have vented voice coils and other features to help them cool quicker and not melt.

Indeed. . .
It should also be noted that it's a very good idea to slowly turn down your volume while music is playing if you've been pounding the hell out of your subs. If they're hitting really hard, they're also storing a lot of heat. It's a really bad idea to be shaking your car with bass, then instantly turn off the system and let those puppies go cold right away.
This makes sense as you wouldn't want to spray ice-cold water onto your header after redlining your car for several miles.
