JLAudio VR Series 6" speaks
Hi guys, I have a set each of JLAudio VR600CSi and VR600CXi (component and coaxial respectively) sitting in a box in my closet. I want to install them in my sedan, and I know they are 6" vs the stock 6.5". Thing is, reading up on them in the JL site, I get this:
Has anyone installed these successfully? I'm gonna do it after Darknights anyway, but I was just wondering if I'm in for a long battle or a quick drop-in. If anyone has any experience with this particular line of speakers, please share your input, I will reward you with hot Asian ****!!! Thanks!
A premium coaxial upgrade for vehicles that accept a true 6-inch speaker. A perfect fit for many Japanese cars that won't accept a true 6.5-inch speaker without modification. The basket features three and four-hole patterns that match up with all factory mounting locations.

Even if it doesn't fit you can most likely find an adapter from a compay like Metra or Schoch (*sp). Or you could cut out some MDF...because you will need a spacer anyway.

I have those components in my front doors and, just like anything else, you're going to have to get a spacer for it to fit, either a bought one or a homemade one, but you're not going to have any unusal problems with the front, now in the back may be a different story, but a 6 is pretty close to a 6.5, so you should still have enough lip to screw into the rear deck.

OK this is what I ended up doin:
For the rears - just removed the rear deck (easy as pie, I dunno what everyone's been stressin over), unscrewed the old speakies, and popped in the new ones. Since they didn't fit perfect, I used 2 of the 3 mounting holes, took the OEM mounting screws, and put nice wide washers on them. I screwed down the mounting screws and the washers held the speakers nice and tight. Very satisfied there.
For the fronts...this took a little more work. When I found those craptastic speakers had the mounting "rings" integrated in, I flew into a murderous rage and kicked a paint can. I then took an Xacto knife and ripped the stock speaks to shreds. An idea then hit me (lightbulb flickered on above head) - I tried to screw the new speaker in using the old mounting ring after dremeling the old speaker out. That way I could use the same stock "clip" setup. No luck there, as I ended up breaking and chipping pieces off of the very brittle plastic Honda uses. At this point I was mucho pissed off, and was cursing the mighty Acura name. Then I stepped on my tube of automotive goop (i was custom-mounting some neons at the same time) and had another idea. I used the stock speaker ring and auto-gooped the speaker to it. After about 45 minutes the ring was sturdy enough to mount in the door. Voila! Custom speakers!
