Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Hi All,

I have a 2001 Honda Civic EX coupe 2-door.
I have all the lights on the dash board working other than the lights on the 4 dials.
I checked the little bulbs at the back of the assembly, the one that come out by twisting and pulling out.
I checked on the fuse box, and all the brown fuses with No. 7.5 written on it.
Car stereo lights work, and dim down when I turn on the head lights.

It was as is when I bought the car, so don't know who changed what which caused it.

Can someone please tell me what else should I check before I go to a mechanic.

Thanks
Ansh

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Pic is for 01 EX coupe cluster.
The "rear view" shows where TEN of the bulbs (item #1) go, most of those are used for illumination. Make sure they all work.

You could remove each bulb and shine a flashlight into the hole to see what illuminates, see if any are supposed to light what you are missing, then see if those are getting power and ground.

If someone swapped the clusters, this pic may not be right and all bets are off.

Hi,

The diagram is spot on.
The cluster is exactly the same.
I checked all the lights, 2-3 were burnt out, but rest looked fine.
I still did not had any lights on the dials.

Also, I would like to mention again that, only the lights on the 4 big dials are not working, other than that, all else lights are working fine,

THanks

but rest looked fine.
Did you just LOOK at the bulbs, or did you actually test them using 12 volts or an ohm meter?

I'd make certain they are all actually good and will work first, then make sure the cluster circuit board actually does supply the powers and grounds to all of them.

That's about all anyone can do with it.

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

How would I check that the circuit board is sending the power to them ?
I am sure atleast 6 of the bulbs work fine.

Are these the only replaceable lights ?
Is there any specific part of wire that powers the bulbs only for these dials ?

Thanks

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Look at the pics.
There are 10 of the bulbs #1.

3 of those are used for the idiot lights in the upper center. See the image "front view". (I can't tell which idiot lights they are. You have the cluster there, I don't.)
The other 7(?) are used for illumination AFAIK.

You could make sure each of the other 7 bulbs do light by using the 3 idiot light holes in the upper center?

The illumination bulbs all operate together.
None of the illumination circuits within the cluster are supposed to be separate......(but a bad circuit board could do weird things I suppose. I saw one board in a CRV burned by a short and the lower half quit working.)

Bulbs #4, there are 6 of those and are used for the PRNDL display.
Bulb #7, there is only one, used for whatever that idiot light is in the image.

In the wiring diagram: cruise, immobi, turn signals, high beam, odo backlight all use regular bulbs of some size or another.....(all other indicators are LED). I have to assume all those are covered by all the available bulbs along with the regular illumination bulbs.

Like I said before, shine a flashlight into the holes and see what lights up. None of the diagrams tell which bulb lights what area. Use a flashlight for that.

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Are you certain that whatever parts you are looking at are actually supposed to light up?
Compare to an identical car?

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

I got a new cluster and am getting the same issue.
All seat belt, indicators and other lights work fine.i

I replaced the bulbs with new ones and I still cant get the 4 big dials lights to work.

Is there anything else I can check that could have gone bad ?

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Could be a tough one then, the dimming is done by the cluster... and should be PCB traces to the sockets for dimmable bulbs.

Your illumination bulbs should be removable from the plastic sockets (common#74 bulbs) the indicator are non removable type neo-wedge)

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

I suspected it was the dim switch, but with the new cluster, that takes that out of question.
Do the fuses in the fuse box control it and if so which ones should I be looking for ?

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

Tail lights used to work, but havent since the past few days.
The issue has been from way before the tail light issue came up.

Re: Speedometer / Temperature / RPM / Fuel meter light not working

....that may well be, but withought taillights you will have NO dash lights. Look for blown "small lights" fuse #2 (15A) in under-hood fusebox.
