Engine?
Hey all, like if mentioned before im new to the import scene and dont know much but im trying to learn and understand so bare with me
.
I am curious as to what engines fit our cars (i own a 2001 ex). I hear alot about the k20, and when i talk to my friends about it they always mention the b16 and say why dont you get that. I hear some where that the b16 wont work with our cars, and im wondering as to why. And is the k20 a better engine? Hmm i hope i asked the question right. if im not clear on what im asking ill explain better in the morning. 3:00 am here, kinda sleepy.
Thanks all.

no one has tried a b16, i am sure it can be done, depend on how much money you have
the first k series swap on the site cost 10k for everything, i think. and it got cheaper and easier as more and more people was doing it.
couple reasons the b series might not work could be
a. 7thgen uses direct ignition, vs distributor
b. returnless fuel system
but i think hasports is working on a b18 swap into the 7thgen...

A b series should be pretty much a direct bolt in, just some modification to the fuel system, ours is a returnless system and b series have a return line (if this is proper terminology). The K series isn't nessicarily a better motor but it is newer technology. Hasport has a mount kit for the K series to fit into our car, and it's being done more and more each day. Imagine dropping a stock 200hp motor into your civic, then modify it.
No, our civics have a D series engine, many older civics have D series in them also, B series were in some older civics and integras. The D17 and K20 just became honda's new motors of choice in 2001.
You have a "K" series engine, Older civic have "B" series engines. You cant put a round peg in a square hole!

A D-series will fit into the 7th gen perfectly fine, provided you make/buy the right mounts. The D-series is, for all size intents and purposes, very similar to the B-series; that's the reason why you can swap any B-series into an EG or EK chassis. So it stands to reason that a B-series would fit into a 7th gen as well.

People should recheck that. Is it really true? I was checking my state's emissions laws, and you can have any combination of vehicle you want, as long as it passes safety inspections and the ACTUAL emissions (gasses). They issue you a new VIN and who the hell knows what would happen to your insurance, but that was the way I read it. I may be wrong.

They don't issue you a new VIN#. You'll just have two different VIN#'s - one for your engine/ECU and one for your chassis.
Your insurance status won't change, unless you tell them you got a new car and choose to insure it at the new (most likely higher) rate.

but when you change insurance, i hear they will personally send a mechanic over to inspect the the engine to see if it has been modified. thats what my friend told me and his insurance got jacked up. he switched to progressive.
