cat back exhausts replace all the piping from the catalytic converter back, hence the name catback. axle back exhausts replace the piping from the rear axle back. sound depends on pipe diameter, ive heard a lot of ricey, loud cars that only have muflers, it just depends on the manufacturer you get. headers increase exhaust flow, so yes it will get louder. hope that helps
Well first of all, you should have searched, although maybe you did. Anyway I will take a stab at this one.
First of all a catback is just like the name in that it is from the catalytic converter all the way back. An axle back is also just like it's name in that it runs for your rear axle (i think) all the way to your muffler. Essentially it is just a muffler with about 3 feet of piping.
The sound preference is all in the person. Some ppl think that the TCS Catback sounds the best, some think that the HKS rear section sounds best. There are sound clips in these forums.
Obviously axle-backs will cost less cuz they come with less piping, etc.
Headers usually wont effect sound but some that replace cats will.
Hope this helped

i got a powertech axleback off eBay for a little over $100. i love the sound, its not loud, but is a low tone. do a search on eBay for "civic exhaust" youll see tons of axle back exhaust for $120 or less

Just wondering if you get a rear section isnt the piping usually 2" or 2.25"? And isnt the stock piping only about 1.75"? If its bolt on, would you have to weld the rear section onto the stock piping if your only getting a rear section?
