What's the best header for power gains?
Does anyone know the best header to buy for power gains? I don't want to get the HP header because I don't want to have to modify the engine bay. I'm just looking for one that can bolt on.
The DC header is weak. We know that the DC civic only has a +5hp gain. From importtuner the exhaust gives us +2 and most short ram intakes are +1. My guess is the DC header is +2hp. I'm going to get it though, as a company I believe they make high quality stuff

Hp and Kamikaze both make top-portion only headers that do not change the legality of the car in any way.
Hp an Kamikaze both make a combo header and testpipe that will render the car illegal for street use. Kamikaze does not make the header+testpipe combo for the ex models however.
Either the kamikaze or hp with the testpipes would be the best choices for performance. The hp will require the modification of the motor mount while the kamikaze does not.
Anyhow, NO member can say WHICH is BEST because NO member has a dyno comparing the two. Don't be fooled by members' OPINIONs.
If you do a *SEARCH*, you can find plenty of info on this topic.

So technically I could get the hp with test pipe, and when i go for inspections I could just replace the test pipe with the stock downpipe, or a high-flow cat, is that the case?

So, it's very well possible that you may fail an inspection with a high-flow cat because of the "replacing an existing cat" law.
The best alternative is to simply change out your aftermarket header and pipe for the oe parts. It wouldn't be that big of a deal since it is only 1 day out of the year.
Don't forget the simulator if you decide to go with a testpipe setup.

Thx mbow, almost forgot about the o2 simulator... Ill probably go with the kamikaze if i dont get the hp header and hi-flow cat for cheap.
That was my plan, just jack the car up and put the oem stuff back, then replace after the inspection.
What about the resonator? This is disposable for a few hp right? What purpose does it serve? Does it matter for inspections? If anything I could replace it on too for inspection if neccessary....

I suppose you are talking about the resonator near the muffler. It's there for noise suppression. The exhaust will be louder without it. I would leave it on.
No, removing the resonator shouldn't be an issue. It doesn't have anything to do with emissions, just noise.
Kam and hp advertise high-flow cats but they are really just resonators that look like cats from the outside.
Yea, go with the Kam setup since you have a dx.
