Catback question

Aside from the obvious placement of the cat.... is there a big difference between the LX and EX exhausts. I have an HP axleback right now, and I see that they are selling the midsection for it (wasn't available when i ordered). No site I have been to has specified if they make it for the LX and Ex or just the EX (and i guess no site will get back to me on that). Anyway, are the pipes on the EX up to the cat shaped the same as the LX(same bends). I can't afford a header right now and I want to get the midsection and temporarily do custom piping up to the cat from the midsection.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they are the same........I think the only difference involving cat backs is the EX and the DX models, because when I bought my magnaflow cat back, I had an extra pipe that was for the DX model, I have an EX, so yeah I got an extra pipe lyin' around.

The DX and LX models are the same when it comes to placement of the cat. The EX model has the cat placed further back. So you probably should email them and askthem if it will fit the LX.

When I ordered my midsection from Ractive, they didnt specify either, so I bought it, and thats when I realized the midsection I had was for an EX and not my DX. There is a huge difference in length. If you have a LX, you might have a hard time finding a midsection for that model, considering Ractive was the only brand I could find that made midsections for our cars.

Because my midsection doesnt fit, I am waiting on getting a header with a downpipe for an EX to make it fit. You could always do that.

is the length the only difference between the ex and the dx? how further back is the cat placed? in other words, would i be able to get a shop to make an extension piece to connect the stock cat on my dx to the pipe of a catback made for an ex?

thanks in advance!

That's what I'm asking kinda. If the bends are the same or not. I don't care if it comes up short because I can just throw on some custom piping the rest of the way until I can afford a header. Also, a pic for those wondering on the layout of the two:

Edit: The bottom part boxed out is the midsection for the LX... They look kinda the same to me with respect to the two bends (only one LX bend is shown)

The LX cat is integrated into the header. The EX cat goes after the header. You can get a shop to connect a cat-back exhaust designed for the EX to the LX's header/cat combo, but it's not just a straight pipe. It would be a pipe with a bend at the end of it to connect up to the header/cat. I would get an EX cat-back exhaust system, an EX header, and a high-flow cat. Hook all of that up with custom piping and weld in the 2nd O2 sensor and extend the sensor wires.

Viola! EX exhaust system and an extra 10hp. 10hp since 127 - 115 = 12, but 117 - 115 = 2. Guess what the logic behind that is? I'm comparing models and their differences. EX has a header and VTEC while LX has neither. However, HX has VTEC and an LX's exhaust system.

Yup, you heard me. I believe that the VTEC in our cars is only good for a 2hp increase. That is if you don't lower the engagement point.

I'm going to buy the Hp midsection and have my friend hook me up with the custom piping to the stock cat. When I can afford the header I'll get that. Thanks for the help on this though... god forbid the company who makes them would know anything about it. Also, there was an earlier post that NOPI is selling the midsection for $400. That is true but look at their MSRP on it... over $700! It's all a typo though. I should be getting a good deal on it through thecivicstore.com. Anyway, thanks.

pipe 12 has the discontinuation line at the end so what you are really looking at in the diagram is #12 ending where #11 begins.
