Are there any exhaust systems with significant gains?
I'm in the market for a cat back system. I just spent the past 10 or 15 minutes searching and reading exhaust threads. Most of them talk about the look, fit, or sound. Very few of them talk about actual gains. From what I've read, I'm under the impression that the Tanabe R-spec (or something like that) produces the most gain. I just want a clear answer from the people that have switched over to an aftermarket exhaust system such as DC, Tanabe, Thermal, Greddy, Apexi, etc. Is there one particular system that gives us more hp than the rest, or are they pretty much all the same? If you don't mind, post up what kind of exhaust you have, and whether or not you felt there was a gain.
PLEASE?!!!
PLEASE?!!!
With NA cars there really is very little gain because they are all basically designed the same. You are really buying for looks and sounds. I have the GReddy EVO and I like it a lot it sounds nice but i didn't really feel any gains.

I spent quite i bit of time on the internet and on the phone with Greddy & Tanabe which seems to be the best platform for our cars. So far Tanabe has the best porformance gains (dynoed) in the Hp and torque areas. The look is more your preference i wanted the gains more so than the looks but it just so happens i like the look of the Rspe or(SuperRacingMedalion). I have a Tanabe Rspec exhaiust and the sounds is deep and throaty and its all stainless steel so its meant to last where as Greddy has the stainless steel muffler and the piping isnt so in a few years it might end up rusting on you. You can get the RSpec for about 550 shipped if you go through me and it gives you gains in the low and high end but you feel it more in the low end. The piping is 2.25 i believe which is the optimal diameter for performance for our cars. Hope this helps and if you would like to order the exhaust email me ill hook you up. Ask flyriceracer he got one from me

It depends on whether you have an lx or ex. The ex's exhaust is already free-flowing and optimized for performance but with the sound level in mind. That's why you only get a few hp from an aftermarket system. The oem is already about as good as it gets.

Just wonder, how much more restrictive is the stock EX muffler over an aftermarket? I was thinking about a Magnaflow on a custom exhaust. I was it quiet, but still flowing. Any suggestions?

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I do have an EX, and I have heard that the stock is pretty free flowing already. And I know that there's no exhaust out for our cars that will give gains in the double digits, but my car needs all the help it can get.

Dude, dont worry about searching for a brnad name cat back system. Go to your local muffler shop and have them bend a custom pipe. I got a 2 1/4 in custom bent pipe done a bought an arospeed muffler online. I t sounds sick and I saved 2 to 3 hundred dollars
