Problems installing MOMO shiftboot

hey guys, well i pulled apart my center console part apart and removed my stock shiftboot, but when i tried to get my MOMO shiftboot on it is too thick of material. can anyone suggest how to get it on, what to do or any other shiftboot works better with our cars. i tried for an hour but wanted to avoid cutting it if possible. because i didnt know if it would fit even if i did cut it.

please let me know, cause i need to make an exchange before it expires if i cant install it.

Are you talking about it's too thick to get the staple to go back through to hold it on? To fix that I would just take some scissors and get a hole started to get the staples through.

Cut it. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/IMG] Otherwise, it will never fit properly. Make sure to glue or stitch the ends of the boot together where the stitching is(3 spots).

NOOOOOOOO don't do that!!! I just had the same problem with my new ichibahn boot, It took my brother an I a good 40 minutes to get it but it worked!
1. make sure it is straight
2. use a flathead screw driver to clip in one section opposite the screw
3. If sucessful proceed to put the screw back in and tighten
4. Once those ends are in this is where the task becomes hard and you need to have someone else assist
5. As one person pushes down on the ring, the other should be using the flat head to try to create room
feed the clips through
6.Keep trying until sucessful
7.Pray if it doesn't work

There ya go thats what i did, i really didn't want to have to cut my brand new christmas gift, too beautiful, and with momo products i don't think spending that kind of cash and wrecking it is cool!!!!
Mine looks great and i'll post some pics!!

This picture shows a "Momo" boot. I tried your technique, but it didn't work to well. The entire boot would not fit easily.

This is what I did with my MOMO boot... it works perfectly. Once you have the stock boot out, put it inside the MOMO one. Using a white out pen, trace the tabs off the bottom of the stock boot onto the MOMO boot. Once you've done that, take a sharp exacto knife and cut out the tabs. Cut outside your traced line (closer to the bottom of the boot) just in case you didn't have the stock one in there straight or you shorted it. Once you have the tabs cut, put the MOMO one back in the console just like the stock one was.
This was the only way I could get it to fit in and put the trim ring back on. There isn't much room in that little rail they give you to put the boot into, so keeping the boot as thin as possible is a must.
You don't need to staple it back in though... The leather is thicker than the crappy stock one, so it will hold itself in place.
Good luck and remember to measure twice, cut once.

thanks for the replies. i think first im gonna give it another try to squeeze it in there but i dont think its gonna happen, i did have someone helping me and we fought with it for a couple hours but hey trying again wont hurt, my last resort will be to trace out my stock boot and cutting the MOMO one , wish honda would have allowed just a little more room.

Hey Boilermaker1,
I like the look of your shifter. I have a few questions:
Did you get the short throw adapter?
It looks awfully short, that's the look I'm after.
What type of **** is that, where did you get it?
That's a momo boot? Where did you get it?
How easy was it to install all this stuff?

No that is the stock lever The **** is about 1 1/4" Shorter than the stock one, and then it can be pushed farther on to the lever than the stock one can because there are no threads in the MOMO **** (it goes on with bushings and set screws). So I used 2 bushings instead of 1. You need the 2nd and 3rd smallest. Cut the top off the larger of the 2. Put the one that still has a top on it on top of the lever and push the **** all the way down on to it. Then pull the **** off with the bushing inside. Then put the bushing with no top down on to the lever below the threads... Right after it flares out. Put the **** back on and line up the lower bushing in the holes for the screws and tighten. Instant shorter shifter. Simply because it sits lower on the shift lever.
It's a Momo Performance boot (screws into the threads on the bottom of any Momo ****. The **** is a RaceAir Alloy. All of it came from OBBN Motorworks

Hey Boilermaker1,
I'm getting the aluminum sphere. w/o actually having the pieces in front of me it's hard to imagine what your describing with the bushings. Can you try to explain again with a little more detail? Do you have any pics or sketches of the bushings? I want to do exactly what you did, looks sweet. If you can give me a little more detail I can save this info till mine comes in. Thanks!

Last question, the boot, since the **** sits lower did you have to cut down the boot? I know you got the Momo boot, but did it fit right out of the box, or did you do like the DIY?

Did I cut the MOMO Boot? Is that what you are asking?? Yes. I did cut it. I cut it because it is much longer than it needs to be (remember its universal fit) and because there is an elastic band in the bottom that is too thick to get in the rail in the trim piece. But I didn't cut it any shorter than the stock boot. All I did was trace the stock boot inside the MOMO one and cut it out. There is no need to make it shorter than the stock one.
The bushings are rubber caps that go over the shift lever. You need to cut the top off of the 3rd smallest bushing and that one goes onto the shift lever below the threads for the stock ****. Then take the 2nd smallest one and place it on top of the lever. The top will stop it from going on any farther. There are 3 threaded holes for set screws near the bottom of the ****. If you bought the same boot as me, then you don't need the bottom finisher as the boot screws into the threads on the outside. Line up the lower bushing (the one you cut the top off of) with the screw holes. Tighten the set screws and screw in the shift boot.

Hey Boilermaker1,
Why did you buy a momo boot? Couldn't you have just used the stock one? You say it screws into the momo ****, could I rig the stock one up to do that? I hate to spend $50 for a momo boot if I don't have to you know what I mean....
