tanabe or generic?
ok, well I am faced with a situation on whether I should get a tanabe rspec for about $500-550 ... or I can get 2.25'' custom catback piping with a universal fireball-style muffler (comes with a silencer) and installation for $100?
Would it make that much of a difference if I were to get the rspec over a universal fireball style muffler?

Save your money and go for the Tanabe you wont be able to get the same straight through desing that allows Tanabe to produce the gains it does you can get it for as low as 475.00 shipped so search for a buit and remember you get what you pay for the custom piping will rust Tanabes cat back is full stainless steel and wont rust on you
- "For performance reasons"? How much horsepower does an exhaust give our little engines anyway? Maybe 4-5 hp tops (and thats being generous)? How much more will a big name brand exhaust give you over custom piping, MAYBE 1-2 hp? True, a name brand cat back may be better made, but you can customize your exhaust and piping anyway you want. It all boils down to how much you want to pay for name brand and a few horsies.
if the custom piping is mandrel bent then the difference between the mufflers will be impossible to tell on teh butt dyno. on an actual dyno... the different will probably be <1.5HP. for the $400+ you can... you could get some other goodies... maybe intake and header?
comes down to how much bang for the buck you looking for. if your high rollin' then spring for all the expensive goods. but if your a brotha on a budget, think of what you want to do with your car and how much you wanna spend.

nah ... the piping isn't mandrel bent ... and it's made of the generic piping you can find at your average hardware store ... rather than with a smooth coating or whatever (if that's what they normally come with)
I say get the tanabe r-spec. I have it and I love it.
Plus if your going to do custom piping its good to do madrel bent and use stainless steal piping, and that usually will run you more than just buying a whole cat-back exhaust.
