DIY air intake?????

I was talking to another 7th gen owner at Best Buy last night and we were wondering, since the throttle body is straight up, could you put an old style air filter thing on? Like the K&N systems for muscle cars, where the sides of the filter are exposed AND you switch the lid to the K&N lids. I'm just curious. I know it would suck in hot engine air, but so do the CAI's. Has anyone besides me noticed that the AEM CAI filter sits right behind the radiator fan? Great, my CAI has a fan blowing hot air on it. Anyway that's another topic, back to our idea. If you had this setup, you could even get a hood with a scoop that would be functional. Any comments or idea's on if it would work?

Plastic manifold is better since plastic does not hold heat like metal

JoeyOKC is on a distinguished road
it actually sounds pretty cool with the filter like that. i've tried it. It's not any worse than having it down by the radiator fan.
