AEM short ram question...

Ok, someone recently put up a thread in marketplace for a company selling AEM short ram intakes for like 85 bucks plus shipping. My question is, i have an Injen CAI, and live in teh chicago area, we are starting to head into the snowy wet season and i need to know if i should put an order in for one of these SRI kits or if i will be ok with my CAI kit once snow hits? I havent been thru a winter yet with the CAI so im concerned with freezing up of the filter. Anyone with experience ro reccomendation please let me know so i can order one before they hike their price back up. Thanks....

we'll since you have an automatic car, if you do numerous searches about auto and cai they say that short ram intakes perform better on auto and cai for 5 speed - so if i we're you i'd jump on that deal and get the aem sri

i had an sri before i swapped over to the cai system, and i actually feel that the cai performs better for me than teh sri did. besides, im not really concerend with teh minimal difference in performance between the 2, i just dont want to be out somewhere with a frozen filter not being able to start my car. Plus, if i dont have to waste the money for it i would like to save it. I just want some opinions from people who have been thru a cold snowy winter already.

i dont understand how metal freezing would restrict air...? if for some odd reason, it got cold enough for metal to actually freeze, your car would shatter. then again youd be long dead before you even saw your car shatter...

Dude, do you ever post anything helpful? Every time i ever see you post you are being a smart *** or making youself look stupid. If you would learn to read properly, you would have understood my concern. I am talking about water freezing over my filter element. not metal freezing (btw, where in my post anywhere did you see anything about metal freezing?). Keep your mouth shut if you have nothing intelligent to say.

Yes, i could, but to do so i would have to cut my intake and cause irrepreable damage. I would end up with a 3 piece CAI system. I dont want to do this, but if having my CAI on is going to cause problems in the winter here in chicago, it would be a lot easier to buy that SRI and swap that in rather then fight the stock air box back in.

I like the AEM SRI the best for an auto trans. Good sound, probably loses HP, but enough that you can live with it.

As for water freezing on the filter, I don't know how that can happen. Maybe if you drive over a flooded road and the filter gets wet, but there would be water sucked into the engine before it freezes on the filter. Just get SRI and no worries.

I'm not sure about the whole freezing concern, but if shelling out the money is a concern, I'm sure that you can sell your CAI and get enough money to buy the new AEM SRI and still have some loot left over.

Your filter should be fine especially if you have a garage you can park in as far as the water and snow just get the bypass valve. It will help.
