Making some shifter assembly bushings... opinions wanted.

well most people here with a short shifter/adapter has also bought the kumosport "bushings." I was looking at their site lately and realized that they cost 32 bucks shipped now. (quite expensive for 8 pieces of aluminium bushings)

so I figured I'll make my own for a way cheaper price. and sell 'em here or whatever else.

just wondering if anyone is interested. my target price is 10 bucks shipped (or less if possible) but it might go over depending on the material I choose, but it wont go over 20 bucks shipped thats for sure.

my current selection of material for the bushings are: aluminum, steel, and polyurethane... steel seems to be the cheapest, but its quite heavy compare to aluminum (aluminum is 1/3 weight of steel but cost more) and I have no idea how much polyurethane cost but its one heck of a strong rubber.

I can get my hands on other materials too, ie: titanium. but thats a bit hardcore for a shifter assembly bushings. heh.

so any thoughts? interest? if 5-10 people is interested then I'll go ahead and do it cuz I want one for myself too. and I'm sure I can sell a few on ebay.

thanks for any feedback.

When you say you're going to "make them" what do you mean, exactly? Are you going to CNC machine them? Or just grind out something by hand? And what kind of designing are you doing? Straight duplication of the stock bushing dimensions or are you going to make something up?

um. I'm not going to grind them or anything, CNC is a bit much for a lil job like this...

I really shouldn't have said I'll make 'em, since I wont be. I'm going to have someone do it for me with the dimensions I came up with.

its going to be pretty similiar to the kumosport ones... and the stock ones... just that it wont be rubber. (unless I use polyurethane)

there's not much design going into this... its just a bushing. that doesn't mean I didn't bother testing out different designs though. but replicating the stock's form is the best way to go, ensures a better fit. I'm just changing it out for a stronger material thats all. its going to be 16 pieces instead of 8, (8 large, 8 small) this'll cut cost... it probably wont be coated with any colors.. just plain finish (the color of the material, pretty much.)

at the end, it wont be any better than the kumo ones really, since I'll probably just go with aluminum... but if I do end up using steel or polyurethane, it'll definitely be a bit different...

this isn't for those that got the bushings already, its for those that want one, and want a cheaper price on it.

its just a bushing. so its not a big deal.

this is probably a dumb idea anyway. but I already went ahead and check out all these different dimensions, so I might as well go and get a few done, and I duno. give them away or something. lol.

It's not really a dumb idea, it's just that anyone with a piece of bar stock, drill press and a set of calipers can make their own. You find 10-20 people who don't have one of those 3, or don't feel like making them, you'll probably sell them. The KumoSport ones are getting insane. They were only 25 bucks 2 months ago. I didn't get them then because I though it was nuts for a few glorified washers. I'm going to make my own as soon as I'm certain the sticky shifting in the transmission is gone for good. Just to make sure they can't blame metal bushings as the problem. I plan on directly replicating the stock ones, but with T6 6061 Aluminum.

yeah. glorified washers.

hence the "Bushings"

i figure it'll be neat to use polyurethane too.

even back then when its 19.95 I paid 7 extra bucks to ship something that isn't exactly heavy...
