Intake Hose???

Intake Hose???

Right where the intake fits onto the throttle body there is a hose that goes from the intake to the top of the block. 1st of all...What the heck is this for? 2nd...How important is it? 3rd...Is it bad that there is black residue on the inside of it? 4th...Can I get a replacement one from injen? 5th...if not, what would work as a replacement and where could I get it?

By the way...I'm getting rid of my civic in about a month now. The whole car is one big stupid computer. If anyone lives in SoCal and wants to buy the intake from me...I'll sell it for an even 100 bucks...I'll install for 120. Also...my DIY headlamps...I'll to a straight up trade for somebody elses stock/non-DIY plus like 25 bucks for my time and effort of clearing them.

1. It is the crank case breather.
2. Its pretty important
3. I don't know
4. Yes, just call them
5. 3/4" heater hose, any car dealer or auto shop. The acura dealer gave me a piece of it. You need about 5-7".

If you don't know what that hose is for, I don't think I'd want you installing anything.

1st...Shlomo...I stated it was a replacement in the original post.
2nd...AK...I went to autozone a couple days ago and already got that exact same hose...good call...I've had to take off my intake a couple times since it was originally installed...I guess the silicone hose couldn't take it.
3rd...Bartkat...I've never dealt with that part of engines before. I've recently replaced my clutch pretty much by myself so I'm no dummy.

4th...Is there anything I could put around the main seal for the intake (around the intake manifold) so that it would make a better seal. My car has been stalling out and not wanting to idle smoothly recently. I've replaced both my o2 sensors and put the new breather hose on and it still kept stalling. One day while driving I decided to pop open the hood at a stop and I wiggled the intake by the manifold and the car started dying on me then just stopped. The seal I'm guessing isn't creating a good enough vacuum.
I've heard of people putting a silicone spray around that area, but i've heard from other that it could screw up my O2 sensors. I'm gonna undo the whole thing and realign the clamps to see if that helps. Hopefully it does cuz I'm getting terrible gas mileage.

Do you mean the O2 sensors in the ehaust manifold? Also by "main seal" do you mean the rubber adapter between the throttle body and the intake tube?

One thing you might want to try would be to put the original air filter box back on. You don't need to replae the resonator box, but just the filter box. See how it runs then.

Maybe even reset the ECU. You can do that by the battery disonnect procedure outlined in the owners manual.

Did you put the temp sensor back into the intake?

Have the TPS or MAP sensors or wires been disturbed?

Bartkat...There are 2 o2 sensors on our cars. I changed them both. Yes...by main seal I mean the rubber adapter. I reset the ecu after I installed the new sensors. Yes, the temp is back on the intake. And I now feel like a dummy but I'm also buzzin off of Smirnoff, but what are the TPS and MAP sensors...

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. It's plugged in to the left lower side of the throttle body.

MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. It's plugged into the lower front of the throttle body.


These sensors send signals to the ECU, which in turn adjusts to keep the engine running right at different conditions. If one of these plugs is loose, the engine may idle roughly or not run well at all.

If you look down near the base of the throttle body, you'll see wire bundles and plugs, where these sensors are connected. I believe the wires from the Temp sensor also goes into the same bundle of wires as the TPS.

It's just an idea to always check out these plugs and wires to make sure they are well connected whenever trouble shooting, and especially when you have been working around where those plugs are located.

On some intakes, you have to strip back the wire bundle tape or plastic cover in order to get enough wire to put the temp sensor into the new intake. It's possible to have cut into or cut one of the other wires when cutting back this tape.

Hmmm...I'll have to check that out today. Thanks for the Info. Yeah...my car is running and idling like pure crap. Maybe one of those is loose and when I wiggle the intake it wiggles one of those wires. I didn't have to cut any wire to make the temp sensor work but maybe when I was undoing all the wires and dropping (or rather lifting) my tranny something might have snagged. Thanks for the info and I'll keep ya posted on if it works or not.
