Cam shaft... That much power?
I was reading Sport Compact Car last night... going through the article on the Project NEON (apparently, there is even hope for them). They put a Crane cam on an SOHC Neon and cranked out 15 more HP to the wheels (Dyno says so), I was surprised that you could put out that much more by changing the cam profile, but hey... Where's ours?
Cams help a lot. I wish JUN would come out with one for the 7th gens. They have a prototype but I don't know if they are coming out with it. It would help our cars too. And the boltons would have a bigger effect because more air is going in and out. But Skunk2 told me that they would be coming out with stuff for the D17 they just don't know what, hopefully that means cams.

camshaft is the brain of an engine,it determinds the exact time the intake/exhaust valves to open/close.other components like the size of the valve will benefit the hp as well, domestice iron/alloy engines with larger displacement can make even more hp only from a cam swap, those with a longer stroke(rod/crank)lenght will creat more torque but will maxed out at a lower rpm as oppose to a high rev engine like most japanese counterpart.Unfortunately our engine (if u didnt know by now) has limited capability as to adapting high performance parts,so in the mean time,i will just spend my time/money to keep mine lookin good.
P.S i know what a fast car is and civic is not near that league

with the nature of our engines, we'd get like .003 hp to the crank.
i've got the AEM cam gears and I too am waiting for a Cam Shaft to come out...hopefully skunk2 or JUN will release one...i can't wait to get my hands on one of those bad boys...cause when I do...I'm gone with the wind! whhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooosh!
You won't get that much out of a cam unless you do bigger valves, throttle body, intake, exhaust, ignition etc. and match it all up. A modded cam can make for better engine breathing, but that engine is only gong to breathe what it can get into it, burn it and get it out from the exhaust.
